Florida Gators' Spring Game: Starting QB Job Will Be Exciting to Watch Unfold
Neither Jacoby Brissett nor Jeff Driskel failed to impress at the Florida Gators' spring football game on Saturday, which means their battle for the starting quarterback job will certainly continue into the summer.
This position battle will be exciting to watch unfold as the new college football season approaches and the Gators get a chance to put last year's disappointing season behind them.
While leading their offensive groups on Saturday, both Brissett and Driskel showed some nice accuracy and the ability to throw beyond 15 yards.
Driskel completed 12 of 14 pass attempts for just under 150 yards and a rushing touchdown, while Brissett was 9-16 for 223 yards.
Head coach Will Muschamp has a difficult decision to make on who his starting quarterback will be for Week 1.
Driskel gives him the option of having a running threat at quarterback while also being able to throw well outside of the pocket. Brissett is more of a pocket passer and reads defenses a bit better than his counterpart.
With an improved offensive line, it's very likely that Florida runs the ball more this year than they did last year. The Gators ranked 73th in America in rushing yards per game last year and need to improve in that area if they want to reach a major bowl game in January.
Having two good quarterbacks to choose from is a good problem for Muschamp to have, especially when they have some different strengths.
The most important attributes that both players must exhibit early in the season are poise and composure because another 7-6 season won't be acceptable in Gainesville next year.
