Masters 2012: Phil Mickelson and Players That Will Make Final Day Surge

Justin WeltonApr 8, 2012

There is nothing like Masters Sunday. We see people strive to glory and fade to darkness.

It all depends on how much the players allow pressure to dictate their performance. These four golfers will use that pressure in their favor by making a final day surge.

Phil Mickelson

If anybody knows a thing or two about Masters Sunday, it's Phil Mickelson. After shooting a two-over in Round 1, "Lefty" has poured it on in the past two rounds.

Mickelson shot four under on Friday and then six under on Saturday to set himself up right behind Peter Hanson.

Hanson is going to feel the pressure from Mickelson, mostly because they are the final pair to tee off.

"Lefty" is in perfect position to surge toward another green jacket.

Bubba Watson

Nobody seems to be talking about Bubba Watson at six-under, three strokes behind Hanson. He has the perfect mindset to take over on the final day of the Masters.

He believes in his swing, doesn't want to change anything and is a free swinger. Not even the most pressure-packed day of the year can get to Watson.

While Mickelson and Hanson battle it out in the final pairing, don't be surprised to see Watson in the clubhouse with the lead.

Louis Oosthuizen

Alongside Watson, Louis Oosthuizen has played consistent golf throughout the tournament. He has yet to shoot over par, and has shot four under and three under in the first and third rounds.

He finished third at the Shell Houston Open with a 14-under.

Oosthuizen was feeling great going into the Masters, and his confidence level seems to be peaking at the right time.

Henrik Stenson

Maybe a dark horse candidate to make a run, Henrik Stenson has played consistent golf through the first three rounds. He has yet to shoot over par and he finds himself five shots behind Hanson.

Stenson will need to take a few more chances to put himself in contention. If he can make a few big putts, get lucky on some bounces and keep the ball in the middle of the fairway, he has a great chance of making a surge on the final day.
