Phil Mickelson: 3-Time Champ Will Outclass Field to Take Home Fourth Masters
Forty-one-year-old American golfer Phil Mickelson is a legend at Augusta, where he has won three Green Jackets at the past eight Masters.
The three-time champion, who won the historic tournament in 2004, 2006 and 2010, will be the man to beat on Easter Sunday, as the final round of the Masters wraps up.
Despite carrying a larger target than Peter Hanson on his back, Mickelson will outclass his fellow golfers en route to making history.
After getting off to a shaky start on Thursday, Mickelson rebounded with two phenomenal rounds of golf. He shot a four-under, 68 in round two and a six-under 66 in round three to draw within one stroke of leader Peter Hanson, who is nine-under through 54 holes.
Leader Peter Hanson on his one-stroke advantage over Lefty:
""I know a one-shot lead over Mickelson is pretty much nothing, I don't think it matters too much."
"
Mickelson can join Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer on Sunday in the elite category of golfers who have won at least four Green Jackets, and that's not by accident.
Mickelson practically owns Augusta National these days and we shouldn't be surprised to see him atop the standings there once again.
There is no telling how fellow leaders Louis Oosthuizen, Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar and Lee Westwood will fare on the final 18 holes at Augusta National, but they can hardly be considered favorites over a recent champion who has demonstrated such clutch Sunday play at this course in the past.
Mickelson hasn't bogeyed since round two on Friday and even punched in an eagle on No. 13 Saturday, opening up his game and striking fear into the heart of the field.
If not for an uncharacteristic triple bogey on No. 10 Thursday afternoon, Mickelson may be comfortably in the lead heading into the final round.
Just one stroke out of championship position, Lefty has an undeniable advantage over the rest of the field. His experience at the Masters and his confident play as of late will carry him to a monumental fourth Masters title on Sunday.
