Masters Results 2012: Unlikely Day 3 Studs Who'll Tank in Final Round
Day three at the Masters provided us with some surprising results.
There were a few unlikely studs that dominated Augusta National in the third round, but don't expect them to keep it up in the final round on Sunday.
These men aren't ready for the pressure that Sunday is sure to bring.
Peter Hanson
Hanson is having the tournament of his life, and after three rounds, he's leading the entire field.
He completely annihilated the course on Saturday, shooting an incredible score of seven under par.
The trouble for Hanson is that he's never won on a big stage before in his entire career. He hasn't even sniffed the leaderboard at Augusta before, and his only wins have come overseas on the European Tour.
Hanson will likely become overwhelmed at the magnitude of the moment as he tees off in the final pairing with Phil Mickelson today, and I expect to see him crumble under the pressure.
I predict that Hanson will shoot four over par today, leaving himself in great position to snag a nice paycheck but falling short of the ultimate prize by a long shot.
Hunter Mahan
Call this a gut feeling. Mahan shot four under par on day three, and he heads into the final round tied for sixth place.
If you were to judge from recent history, you'd have to conclude that Mahan should have an excellent chance to contend for the title on Sunday after winning the Shell Houston Open last weekend.
The thing is, Mahan has been sporadic at Augusta this year.
Through three rounds, Mahan has shot nine bogeys. He's managed to offset those numbers by also logging 13 birdies.
I don't expect his luck to hold up. Mahan will have a terrible time on Sunday, and I predict that he will shoot six over par, taking him well out of the top 10.
Brandt Snedeker
Snedeker has only won three events in his entire professional career. He has come close to winning the Masters once before, finishing the 2008 tournament with sole possession of third place.
He won the Farmers' Insurance Open in January, but since then Snedeker has floundered.
He had a brilliant round on Saturday, shooting four under par, and is tied for 19th place at the moment. That being said, I fully expect him to fall out of the top 20 before he gets too far into the round tomorrow.
So far, Snedeker has scored nine bogeys and two double-bogeys. He has been prone to making big mistakes in the past under pressure, and I fully expect him to tank tomorrow, shooting five over par.
