The Mid-Card Level is a WWE Superstars' Most Critical Phase
Its no secret that every WWE superstar has dreams. Yes, even the superstars themselves wonder just like we do. They want to see classic match ups just like we do and they want take part in those classic match ups like we want them to. They want to be a part of history so we can remember them years down the line.
Well the line to reaching those pinnacles they dream of starts off when they enter the buisness, of course, but it gets really competitive within the mid-card talents.
This is crucial because this is where superstars get selected to finally recieve "the push" and enter the main event cards. Welcome to the big league fellas. The only obvious problem is that not everyone can receive the push so it gets competitive. On a side note, sometimes superstars get the push without doing much e.g. John Cena.
Nevertheless these mid-card talents are interesting to watch because one of them gets to be the dark horse and enters the main event talent pool. We witnessed Rock and Triple H as they used to feud for the IC title and fortunately both of them made it to the main event talent.
So how do they make it? You cannot just be another wrestler, you have to be one of kind so unique there can never be another you. Despite the differences between superstars, that's the one trait every main event-er in WWE possesses today. There is only one HBK, there is one Rock, there is one Undertaker, one Austin, one hogan and so on. The Rock's mic skills cannot be matched and only Chris Jericho is close.
Personally, I think Cena and Batista were given a push without giving much effort to deserve one. I liked the transformation Bradshaw did to JBL, as well as Kurt Angle's rise to stardom.
The question is there anyone in the wwe today ready or at least in line for "the push"?
I knew CM Punk was not ready but wwe had to make him mr. money in the bank. They proved my theory correct when CM punk was a bad champion and his feud with JBL made made me feel like my eyes were bleeding. As a result of his failure, Punk was sent back down to mid-card status.
Jeff Hardy finally received "the push" too. I also feel that Hardy is a bad WWE champion, but his contributions to the company via classic TLC moments entitle him to a run and he has a huge fan base so he can get away with it unlike Punk.
Now recently Jack Swagger had gotten a push so far he ended up ecw champ. I haven't seen him wrestle so i cannot judge him, however the ecw title is equal to the IC title to me and its ecw...who cares?
Christian should return soon and I believe he will just skip the mid-card phase and straight into the main event. He has the skills and experience to go with chemistry he has with Edge and both Hardys. TNA made him a main event talent as well so he can skip the mid-cards.
Randy Orton worked hard on his character night after night, week after week, improving on not only his in ring skills, but his promos as well. His facial expressions are priceless (not referring to his legacy members). He established himself so well that everyone is well aware that ther is only "ONE RANDY ORTON" including Vince who gave him not "the push," but the throne. Yes, the "it"—a torch only few have held (Austin, Rock, Hogan, Flair). Kudos Orton.
Then there are the mid-card talents who know they just might never make it. It may be harsh but some superstars never got to feel that main event feeling. But I thank them for all their hard work and that goes out to superstars the likes of Val Venis, Santino, Hardcore Holly, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Jimmy wang yang, Goldust, Gregory Helms, Miz (Morrison was ECW champ) Finlay, William Regal, Shelton Benjamin, and the list goes on.
People please don't just focus on the main event superstars because they came from the mid-cards and its the most competitive unit in WWE. This is where they try to find an identity, a gimmick, a moniker, some way to stand out. It is arguably one of the most trying times and critical moments in a rising star's career. You might just get released; go ask Elijah Burke, Kevin Thorn, and Snitsky.
I have nothing against them, but stars shine and if you want to make it to the top then you have to shine brighter than the others...or burn like a supernova, see Orton for that one.
