Florida Football Spring Game: D.J. Humphries and Young Players to Keep an Eye on
Florida's spring game is getting ready to start, and there are sure to be many storylines that arise from the fun game.
While there are plenty of questions that still need to be answered about this Gators squad, many of them can be answered with one game.
Here's a look at some young players who could impress some people today.
D.J Humphries, OT
The true freshman has enrolled early, and let me just say this: There is a reason he was ranked as the top offensive tackle by almost everyone.
This kid is scary good.
His athleticism and maturity will surely give the Gators depth on the offensive line, but if he continues to impress this spring, he could very easily earn a starting job.
Andrew Bone of Scout.com had this to say about Humphries: "There are very few incoming lineman with his talent."
Yup, that pretty much sums it up.
Jacoby Brissett/Jeff Driskel, QB
OK, so what if this is pretty much cheating.
The Gators are going to be young at quarterback next year no matter who wins the position battle. Brissett and Driskel are both true sophomores, but they both should be exciting to watch today, so I'll include them.
These two are pretty opposite in how they play.
Driskel, the No. 1 pro-style quarterback from the 2011 class, according to Rivals, has ideal height and size to be a prototypical QB. He'll stand back in the pocket and gun throws in there with his terrific arm strength. That's not to say he isn't athletic, though, because he still has the sneaky ability to tuck it and run, much like Alex Smith.
Brissett, on the other hand, is more of a dual-threat. He also has good height to be effective in the pocket, but he's much more willing to make plays with his feet. He'll have to improve his accuracy and throwing motion to be successful. Still, though, Brissett is about as exciting as it gets.
Ill take Driskel to win out in the end.
Marcus Roberson, CB
Marcus Roberson already showed what he can do in the secondary last year as a true freshman, but what you'll want to keep an eye on is his punt-returning abilities.
The Gators weren't very good at returning kicks last year and, as a result, are trying out several players for the job this season. Roberson is one of those guys, and early reports suggest that he has impressed in that role.
Keep an eye on the sophomore as spring progresses, because it wouldn't be surprising if he continued his success.
