Why WWE Needs to Have More International Pay-Per-Views
When it comes to entertainment and excitement, nothing beats the WWE in the pro-wrestling world.
It is the standard of excellence.
Judging from the success of WrestleMania XXVIII, the company spares no expense when the time comes to appeal to its universe of fans everywhere. However, it is mostly in the United States that this big phenomenon is represented.
If World Wrestling Entertainment is to continue going around with that name in the new decade, wouldn't it be in their best interest to expand on a more "worldly" stage? It is not just about one country anymore; the world is open and ready to receive the best in the world at what they do.
Going international is a step in the right direction, a step towards the future...
It's What the World Is Watching
1 of 4The motto of the company from the '80s through the '90s was "What the world is watching," but it hasn't been everywhere yet, has it?
So far, pay-per-view events have been broadcast from the U.K., Canada and the U.S. It is a large chunk of land, yes, but in 2012 that is no longer enough. There are new markets and many other exotic places on this planet that could serve to elevate this company to even more stellar heights.
Take China for example. Why not host a WrestleMania there in the near future? It has over one billion people and many speculate it will be the great power leading the world into the future. Now that sounds like a great reason to tap into that market.
With globalization taking control of things, you just can't stay in one area of the world anymore; it's time to spread out and conquer new lands.
Surely, the costs would vary from place to place, but spending a little more to make a lot more seems logical, no?
It Allows Fans to Discover New Places
2 of 4As a fan of this product for almost 30 years, I would personally love to see something hailing from Rio de Janeiro or Sydney, Australia.
Those are a couple of places I wish to travel to someday, and like the Olympics, WWE could spend the time on site to give their fans a tour of the city they are in. It's all about business you see, and nothing is more watched than a global event representing countries everywhere.
Having a super-show in a new, never-before-visited country makes this company more serious as well—no more of this "fake" nonsense. SummerSlam is live from Cape Town this year...just imagine how great that would sound.
It Gives the Wrestlers a Little Break
3 of 4What is the most difficult thing about being a member of the WWE? The busy, busy world schedule.
With their 320-plus work days every year, it is almost difficult to figure out how the wrestlers find the way to heal wounds and rest. They still do it but as 2011 clearly demonstrated, it is beginning to take its toll on the Superstars and Divas.
Should something big happen in a large city like Rome, it would be important for company officials to allow for its people to settle in a little. It could also be a great opportunity to do some PR, charities and other similar things.
There may not be an offseason yet, but going out of America could be a great time to allow for some small vacation periods. Having a healthy and rested list of performers is better for business anyway.
Can you imagine a Royal Rumble near Stonehenge? What a trip!
World Wrestling Entertainment Is...
4 of 4..the best value in entertainment, nothing less.
The world is an undiscovered country waiting to be conquered and who knows what impact that would make.
With such a rich history, WWE is a growing empire, filled with endless possibilities, but it does have its rivals, and to stay on top of things it will need to take things to the next level.
The boxing and MMA worlds both go all out when it comes to events, and that is why they have such a large following. There is no excuse for Vince McMahon not to be going overseas or heading south any longer.
It's what the WWE Universe wants and what the Universe needs. The customer is always right, after all.
