Family Affair V: The Malenkos
Technically gifted. That's how you describe the Malenkos. Just all around great wrestlers. Boris passed his gift on to Joe and Dean and they didn't disappoint him.
Boris Malenko
Born on June 28, 1933, Boris Malenko entered the wrestling world in 1957. On July 19, 1961 Boris was defeated by "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers, Rogers retained the NWA World title in Jacksonville, Fla.
Working under the name Otto Von Krupp in Verne Gagne's AWA, he would win the AWA World Tag Team Championship with "Texas" Bob Geigel. In May 1967, he would defeat Wahoo McDaniel in Tampa to win the Florida Championship.
Boris would win the NWA Southern Tag Team titles with Johnny Valentine when they defeated Chief Jay Strongbow and Jose Lothario.
After retiring, Malenko opened a gym and training center. He trained his sons, Joe and Dean. He also trained X-Pac, Gangrel, Barry Horowitz, Norman Smiley, Alex G and others.
Boris Malenko died in August 1994 from cancer.
Joe Malenko
Trained by his father, Boris Malenko and great in-ring technician, Hiro Matsuda. Joe was born on June 4, 1955, in Tampa.
Wrestling mostly in Japan, he began in Universal Federation Wrestling (Japan) in May of 1985. He's known there for one of his tag matches with Super Tiger when they faced Yoshiaki Fujiwara and Osamu Kido.
Joe and Dean formed "The Malenko Brothers" in All Japan Pro Wrestling. He became noticed for his smooth technical style of wrestling. He had two reigns as AJPW World Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Joe made one appearance in WCW, when he teamed with his brother to take on Nikita Koloff and Ricky Steamboat. but they came up short.
Joe and Dean would team up again, but this time in ECW. They would face Tazmaniac (WWE's Tazz) and Sabu. Even though they lost, they left a great impression. Joe would mostly stay in Florida and worked ECW shows whenever they came through.
Now retired, he is a registered pharmacist in Florida.
Dean Malenko
"The Man of 1,001 Holds" was born on Aug. 4, 1960. Wrestling all over the world, from Mexico to Japan. Dean was the type of wrestler that could turn a Single Leg Crab and turn it into a STF with the snap of a finger. He debuted in 1979.
Dean would join ECW in 1994, known as, "The Shooter," he would defeat 2 Cold Scorpio for his first ECW Television Championship.
In 1995, he formed Triple Threat with Chris Benoit and Shane Douglas. He became a double champion after he and Benoit won the ECW Tag Team Championship from Sabu and Tazmaniac.
In September 1995, he and Benoit jumped ship to WCW. While in WCW, he would win the United States Championship, the WCW Tag Team Championship and four Cruiserweight titles.
He became a member of the final incarnation of the Four Horsemen in 1999. Malenko would later go on to the WWE with his friends Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Perry Saturn. While there, he won two WWE Light Heavyweight Championships.
Dean is now retired and works as a road agent for WWE. He can often be seen breaking up melees on screen or coming out with EMT's.
