Masters 2012: Green Jacket Contenders with Most Work to Do

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

It's officially Masters weekend now, and the stragglers have been cut from the pack.

Players have started to get a feel for the course, and we've seen a few of day one's hottest names joined by some of the sport's biggest names.

But the green jacket is far from won, and the entire field could flip with a busy Saturday on tap.

Major championships aren't won on Thursday or Friday, and not even Saturday, but things can come apart in one second if players aren't careful.

Here is a look at a few with the most work to do to stay in contention on Sunday.

Lee Westwood

Have you seen the 900-pound monkey on the course at Augusta this weekend? No? He's been riding on Lee Westwood's back and will continue to do so until the Englishman finally wins his first major.

He led after Day 1, kept pace through Day 2, but now the pressure is really on.

If Westwood is going to win his first major, he's going to have to be one of the top players each and every day at Augusta.

That is much easier said than done.

Bubba Watson

The American started the day at three-under par, but wasn't able to separate at all.

He dropped off around the corner before rebounding, and will need to put a bit more urgency in his game tomorrow if he's to stay in contention. There are a number of players making a solid push, and he's in danger of getting left behind.

Jason Dufner

The 35-year-old American has never finished better than 30th at the Masters. As things sit now, he's one of the top players in the field and the pressure is on.

More than just continuing to play good golf, Dufner is going to have to find a way to block everything else out.

He's in company with some of the very best in the world, and he's on the grandest stage of all. The pressure has gotten to many a man at Augusta, and he's going to have to work to make sure he doesn't fall prey to it.

It is time to go for Tiger. As expected, he took his time and felt everything out. He had great holes, he had bad holes and he had bad shots saved by brilliant shots.

But now, if Tiger wants to have a legitimate shot this year, he has to start making his charge today.

Westwood and Rory McIlroy certainly won't back down, and even Sergio Garcia is pushing forward.

Tiger is the most dangerous player in the field, but he cannot fall too far off the pace if he is to make a charge.
