Masters TV Schedule 2012: Underrated Stars You Must Watch This Weekend

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

While The Masters is more interesting when the big-name stars are at least in contention to win the green jacket, it would be foolish to just dismiss those lesser-known players because they don't have the sexy names.

Nearly two rounds are complete, and this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive Masters events in recent years.

We know that not everyone in contention right now will actually stay there, but it would be foolish to overlook some of these players for one reason or another.

Here are some of the underrated contenders you must pay close attention to this weekend.

Sergio Garcia

Believe me, I know. But it is hard not to root for Garcia from time to time. He had all the potential in the world when he arrived on the scene 13 years ago.

Things have obviously not worked out the way they were supposed to for him, yet here he is after two solid rounds at Augusta.

While it would be foolish to expect Garcia to magically put together two of the best rounds of his life to win The Masters, he has shown enough to at least put the idea in your head.

Of course, it's entirely possible that Garcia implodes on the front nine today and ends up near the back of the pack.

Jim Furyk

Despite never being the best player in the world, Furyk is one of those golfers that you just can't help but like. He has a great personality on the course, and he makes sure to engage the fans whenever appropriate.

With just one major under his belt and at 41 years old, Furyk does not have a lot of time left to make that one last statement on the biggest stage that golf has to offer.

As long as Furyk can stay close on Saturday, he should feel good about his chances on the final day.

Ian Poulter

Another solid player who has never broken through on the biggest stage, Poulter has had a solid start to this year's Masters.

One of the biggest keys for Poulter to stay hot on Saturday and Sunday is keeping the ball in the fairway. He is not the kind of player who can make up for poor shots in the rough, nor is he a great putter.

Since Poulter is not the kind of player who is going to show off his ego when driving the ball, he will do what will help him win the tournament.
