WWE Superstar of the Week: CM Punk
It’s been one hell of a week for the WWE.
On Sunday night, we were treated to one of the best WrestleManias in recent memory, and that was followed up by an absolutely electric episode of Monday Night Raw just 24 hours later.
The star of it all? CM Punk.

While some fans seem to have been disappointed with Punk’s match against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28, I thought it was an incredibly entertaining bout that was right at the four-star range.
Although the match did start off a bit slow, the pace really picked up at the end, and Punk and Jericho definitely entertained me for the entire 22 minutes that they were in the ring.
The Jericho/Punk match probably won’t get the credit it deserves because it was sandwiched between that five-star Hell in a Cell classic featuring Triple H and The Undertaker and the wildly entertaining match for the ages between The Rock and John Cena.
Yet, for a 22-minute match, Punk and Jericho told a great story and proved that they are indeed the best in the world at what they do.
That being said, Punk didn’t stop there. He gave us another incredible performance on Monday Night Raw.
At the top of the second hour, Punk faced Mark Henry in one of the—if not the—best matches I’ve ever seen from the World’s Strongest Man. It’s no secret that Henry has never been known for his in-ring work, but he and Punk had some fantastic chemistry, which resulted in a show-stealing match.
I loved that big DDT from Punk and that huge bump he took when Henry countered his bulldog and threw him over the top rope to get the countout victory.
It says a lot about Punk for him to be able to make Jericho tap-out clean at WrestleMania, come back the following night on Raw to put on an excellent match with Henry and actually lose that bout.
Still, Punk didn’t stop there.
After the match, he took a vicious beatdown from Jericho that only added more fuel to the fire in their awesome feud.
And guess what? He sold the heck out of it.
Props are in order to Punk this week for putting on two superb matches, taking that beatdown like a champ and proving that “the best in the world” is more than just something he calls himself.
It’s the truth.
Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
