Max Browne: Breaking Down the Finalists for the Nation's No. 1 QB
National Signing Day is still several months away, but there is one player who's ready to commit to his school today. That would be the No.1 quarterback recruit in Max Browne.
Browne has had offers from nearly every school in the country due to his ability on the football field. He has great size at 6'5" and 196 pounds, throws the ball with great accuracy and makes solid decisions with the football. He has the makeup of a great quarterback and could end up changing a program with his decision.
He hasn't released many hints on where he may end up, but there seem to be some schools that he favors over others. Let's break down some of the teams that he may likely pick.
Oklahoma
1 of 4Browne took an unofficial visit to check out Oklahoma and really liked some of the things they had to offer, including remembering the history they have with great quarterbacks. Here are some of the things he said about the Sooners.
""I was really excited when I got that offer," Browne said of the Sooners. "I was able to meet with coach (Josh) Heupel before I got the offer and get a good connection with him. Once I got the offer I knew I had to check it out, whether I was going to like it or not. It's not close and it's not west coast per se, but it is a power. On paper they've had Landry Jones, Jason White, and Sam Bradford…and then coach Heupel himself. The quarterback tradition there is good.
"
The offense they run is similar to the offense we run at Skyline. Even some of the verbiage is the same, which is kind of cool and a good fit."
With Landry Jones on his way out, Browne would have a great opportunity to see the field sooner than later. He'd also have oodles of talent around him due to the fact that the Sooners recruit extremely well. There is a serious possibility that he ends up with Bob Stoops and company.
Notre Dame
2 of 4Browne actually took part in camp with the Irish back in June of last year and, of course, he enjoyed himself and could really picture himself staying in South Bend.
""Football wise it is all the tradition that stands out there. Be it the Heisman Trophies, or the actual stadium. There is tradition there that you can tell is something very special and something that would be cool to be a part of.
Non football wise I would have to say the whole campus. It’s different, not in a bad way. It’s a little bit smaller and as for South Bend, it is all about Notre Dame and Notre Dame Football."
"
Due to the tradition of Notre Dame and everything they have to offer off the field, the Irish are always a contender for a top pick. But with the quarterback position absolutely loaded, you'd think he would go elsewhere that would offer him a better chance to take the field.
With that said, it's never a good idea to count this program out.
Washington
3 of 4The way Washington has been able to recruit lately, you have to consider this as a realistic possibility. Not to mention Browne is actually from Sammamish, WA, so the Huskies do have the home-field advantage in this race. Here are a few words the 5-star quarterback had for this program:
""(Washington Head) Coach (Steve) Sarkisian is a great head coach and probably one of the best head coaches to recruit me throughout this process. He looks me straight in the eye and tells me that he loves me, he loves the way I throw the ball and everything involved. But I know the score; U-Dub had to get a great quarterback, and they got two great ones. I know Jeff (Lindquist) well and Cyler (Miles), I went to a camp with - they are in great hands. They were MVP's of their All-Star games."
"
Washington may not be a top program like the other teams on this list, but they are one that is on the rise and doing fantastic things under head coach Steve Sarkisian. You add the fact that they are about 30 minutes away from his home and you have a dark horse in this competition.
USC
4 of 4Then of course you have the USC Trojans, who are always in the running for any top prospect. This is one of the schools the 5-star recruit actually visited, and here's a few things he said about that visit.
""It was great. It was actually kind of weird. It rained a little bit toward the end, but it was enjoyable. I stayed there for a while, three full days. I was definitely exhausted at the end, but I was glad I made the trip down."
"
USC seems like one of the schools to beat in this race. They're a top program that will surround him with tons of talent, they have great history with quarterbacks, they're not that far away from home and Matt Barkley is a senior, which means Browne will have an opportunity to hit the field from day one.
Don't be surprised if the Trojans land yet another top recruit by the end of the day.
