Masters 2012 Odds: Tiger Woods and More Favorites to Avoid Betting on
The 2012 Masters will begin at Augusta this Thursday, April 4 and it promises to be an epic tournament, but bettors must beware.
Favorites in this event, such as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, are simply not a good value, and the odds of them actually winning the event are much lower than what the bookmakers in Vegas have set.
Let’s take a look at the odds of some golfers to avoid wagering on during the Masters.
Tiger Woods—4/1
Tiger has not won at Augusta since 2005 and just recently earned his first PGA win since September of 2009.
While he has momentum, it definitely isn’t enough to bet him as a 4-to-1 favorite to win the whole thing.
This isn’t the Tiger Woods of old, and there is no justifiable way to lay these odds.
Rory McIlroy—11/2
Rory’s best finish at the Masters found him tied for 15th last year. The 22-year-old Irishman is definitely on the up-and-up, but is he really ready to conquer one of the most prestigious events in golf?
It’s certainly not worth the gamble, and at 11-to-2 odds, it will be tough to back an unproven kid like Rory.
Luke Donald—16/1
Donald has never won a major golf tournament despite being the world’s No. 1 player.
He’s consistent as they come during the tour, but he’s never been able to place better than third at the Masters, which came all the way back in 2005.
He’s not a threat to win in 2012, and there is no reason why anyone should back him at less than 30-to-1 odds.
