Laviolette attempted to cross the partition between benches after a brawl broke out on the ice, precipitated by Pittsburgh's Joe Vitale taking out Philly's Daniel Briere in retaliation for Brayden Schenn's blindside cross-check on the oft-concussed Sidney Crosby.
The brouhaha resulted in the ejection of both coaches and a total of 52 penalty minutes being doled out between the two teams.
Of course, this is hardly the last to be heard of bad blood between these Keystone State adversaries. The Flyers and Pens are set to close out the regular season in Philly on Saturday before their likely meeting in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the fourth and fifth seeds in the Eastern Conference.
