Players Who Won't Be with Sacramento Kings in 2013

Bryant WestJun 7, 2018

While the Sacramento Kings have shown improvement this season relative to the past few years, they will most certainly be sitting at home come May. The franchise hasn't made the playoffs since 2006, and while the future is looking brighter in Sacramento, there are still many improvements to be made before the Kings are ready to make the NBA's second season.

The 2011 offseason was a major disappointment for Sacramento as nearly none of the moves the team made have actually improved the team. The lone bright spot of the offseason for Sacramento has been the immediate impact of rookie Isaiah Thomas, who was taken with the last pick in the 2011 Draft. Aside from that, the summer of 2011 wasn't the best for the Kings. Sacramento needs to make sure 2012's offseason isn't a repeat of that.

Who on the squad needs to be moved, or might be gone by the start of next season? Let's take a look.

Donte Greene

1 of 3

First off, I love Donte Greene. He's a fan favorite in Sacramento thanks to his passion and love of the Kings' fans. He's an entertaining player, and is easily the best dunker on the Kings squad. During the lockout in November, Greene put together a charity game for the fans. I hope he remains with Sacramento.

But realistically, the chances aren't that high. He's a solid all-around player, but he's very inconsistent at nearly everything. He is, at best, a decent bench player on a good team. But if Greene wants too much money, he's not worth it for Sacramento to retain.

Green currently averages 5.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.9 minutes a game for Sacramento, shooting 42.1 percent from the field.

Francisco Garcia

2 of 3

Garcia is one of the Kings lone veteran presences in the locker room, but he no longer makes sense for Sacramento to keep long-term.

In slightly over 16 minutes a contest, Garcia is averaging 4.9 points a game but is shooting just 37.5 percent from the field. While his playing time has fluctuated over the past few months, he's been anything but consistent on a team that desperately needs consistency.

He's a very capable defender, and that is what would make him valuable to a playoff team looking for some bench help. Garcia has two years left on his contract, but the second year is a team option, so trading Garcia this summer to a veteran team makes a lot of sense.

John Salmons

3 of 3

Needless to say, bringing John Salmons back to Sacramento was a serious mistake. Salmons' only consistent positive has been his defense, but no amount of defensive tenacity can make up for his often-dreadful offense and the fact that the Kings owe him $24 million over the next three seasons.

Salmons is no longer starting, and is averaging just 7.5 points in over 27 minutes a game while shooting just 40.2 percent from the field. Here's to hoping the Kings correct their mistake and amnesty Salmons while they still can.
