Baylor vs. Notre Dame: Why It's Inevitable That the Bears Will Win
The upcoming NCAA women's basketball tournament final between Baylor and Notre Dame is just a formality.
No disrespect intended for the Fighting Irish, who I'm sure will give it everything they've got, but the Bears are going to win.
They are just too good.
I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago in which I laid out the reasons why Baylor would finish their undefeated season with a championship.
Nothing has changed since then, and the reasons for their success are about as simple as it gets—Baylor possesses superior talent.
Odyssey Sims and Brittney Griner are still dominating, and not even a hot Stanford team could stop them from doing what they do—win.
The scariest part about it all is that Stanford actually did manage to slow down both players. Griner ended up scoring only 13 points while Sims was held to just 11.
Still, there is enough talent around them to make even tough nights turn into wins.
Destiny Williams crashed the boards, collecting 10 rebounds against Stanford to go with seven points. Joining her and the two superstars in the action, senior guard Terran Condrey also pitched in 13 points, equaling Griner's total.
Even if Notre Dame manages to somehow cause Sims and Griner to stumble, there is enough talent on the rest of Baylor's roster to make up the difference.
The Lady Bears are the most balanced team in women's college basketball. They always find ways to win, and the championship matchup against the Irish won't be any different.
