WrestleMania 28 Review: 5 Things I Hated About the Show

Chris SchadJun 4, 2018

The buildup for WrestleMania 28 made the event one of the most anticipated WrestleManias ever. The Rock was going to take on John Cena, Triple H and the Undertaker were going to fight inside Hell in a Cell, and CM Punk and Chris Jericho would battle for the WWE Championship.

On the surface, WrestleMania 28 looked like it could have been one of the best WrestleManias in history as well. However, the show fell just short of expectations.

When the show was over, I almost breathed a sigh of relief because the WWE couldn't screw anything else up.

While the main event between The Rock and Cena delivered, there were several things that kept bugging me the entire night and watered down the product.

Daniel Bryan's Three-Second Match with Sheamus

1 of 5

If another championship was on the line, I wouldn't have minded if Daniel Bryan's match lasted three seconds.

The only problem was that this was for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Daniel Bryan got defeated in three seconds flat.

To this I say—really? REALLY???

There may be some people who hate Daniel Bryan, and to that I can say that I don't blame you.

However, Daniel Bryan may be one of the best workers in WWE. With that, there's a simple message here—he deserves better.

The opening match of WrestleMania 28 was a joke. There are not words to describe how bad this was. Not only did WWE throw a prestigious championship under the bus by having it last three seconds, but it also had little to no appeal.

Comparing this match to the WrestleMania 27 match between Edge and Alberto Del Rio was night and day. WWE screwed up on this one, and hopefully they find some way to counteract burying one of their best titles in the biggest show of the year by having a longer match in the near future.

Eve Torres Was Involved in the Outcome of Two Matches

I'm going to be honest here.

If Eve Torres came to my door and said "Hi, Chris," I would honestly invite her in and do things that I'm not allowed to talk about on this website.

Heck, I'm sure a lot of the IWC would feel the same way.

When it comes to in-ring storylines, I like my favorite diva to be kept behind the scenes a little bit.

At WrestleMania 28, Eve did the "Broski Boot" taunt along with Zack Ryder as she became the reason that Team Teddy fell to Team Johny.

Although my favorite diva was a sight for sore eyes when it came to this pay-per-view, I do have to question why she was a deciding factor in two WrestleMania matches.

Aside from the Team Johnny fiasco, Eve was also a contributing factor in Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos' win over Eve and Beth Phoenix earlier in the evening.

Again, I am a fan of Eve as long as I get to stare at her for an extended amount of time. However, with the events of the World Heavyweight Championship match, I have to question why Eve had to play a role in two WrestleMania matches.

The WHC got three seconds. Eve got roughly 20 minutes. Can anyone see my problem here?

Unnecessary Elements in the Triple H/Undertaker Match

3 of 5

The End of an Era match was another match on the card that lived up to its billing.

In what could be the last match for both Undertaker and Triple H, both men put on a show, and it was one of the better moments of WrestleMania.

However, the WWE did too much with this match, and some of the elements seemed unnecessary.

The first overkill factor was Shawn Michaels as the guest referee. It's great to see HBK in the ring again, but did he really have to be the ref in this match?

The only thing out of the ordinary with his guest referee appearance was a quicker recovery time than other refs and the Sweet Chin Music on the Undertaker.

The other element that could have been done without was the use of the cage. As awesome as it was to see Undertaker chuck a sledgehammer out of the ring after blasting Triple H with it, the cage played virtually no role in the match.

It's hard to expect anything when both men in the match were close to picking up their AARP cards, but come on. I suppose the WWE wanted easy cleanup, and that's why we didn't see any of the moments that have made Hell in a Cell famous.

Again, this was one of the better matches of WrestleMania, but it had a slight level of overkill by the WWE's creative department.

Lack of Awesome Entrances

4 of 5

One of my favorite parts about WrestleMania is that we see entrances that are extravagant and out of the ordinary.

This year, WrestleMania failed on this aspect.

The coolest entrance we saw was Triple H's Mardi Gras Float From Hell at the top of the stage.

Other than that, the WWE strategically placed fireworks throughout the arena a la WrestleMania 24. It was a cool idea, but it seemed to fall flat.

The WWE also had MGK and Flo Rida sing their famous (Can you call "Invincible" that because of the Verizon commercial?) songs prior to The Rock and John Cena's entrances, but it didn't have the same effect as Motorhead performing "The Game" in WrestleMania 21.

This issue may be nitpicking, but the WWE could have done more here.

No Post-Match Interaction Between John Cena and The Rock

5 of 5

The main event of WrestleMania, which had been hyped for over a year, lived up to its billing, as The Rock and John Cena put on a show with The Rock emerging victorious.

It was pretty good until the very end, when the show promptly faded to black after The Rock's win.

After a year of bickering back and forth, this victory by The Rock is going to result in John Cena walking back to the locker room and saying, "Oh well, I tried my best."

I don't think that's the best way to do things. I'm sure WWE wanted to get people to tune into Raw tonight to see what happens next, but there's a reason that fans pay the $60 to get the pay-per-view.

There should have been some post-match interaction between Rock and Cena. It could have been as simple as a handshake offer with either Cena or Rock blowing the other one off. There just should have been something here.

Perhaps they could have had a special two-count rule in the World Heavyweight Championship so they could have added this. (I'm not saying, but I'm just saying.)
