5-Star DL Recruit Kenny Bigelow: 5 Reasons He Committed to USC
Hailing from the Northeast region of the country, Kenny Bigelow has established himself as one of the best players in the nation for 2013. In fact, Rivals ranks Bigelow as the No. 6 overall prospect and labels him a full 5-star recruit.
On the recruiting front, Bigelow received offers from schools such as Auburn, Ohio State and Oklahoma according to Rivals, but he made up his mind early by committing to USC. That's right, the talented 6'3", 285-pound defensive lineman is headed to Hollywood in 2013.
Here's five reasons he committed to The Trojans.
5. Ed Orgeron
1 of 5Orgeron cut his teeth at Miami during the Hurricanes' heyday as their DL coach. He was responsible for developing some the nation's elite defensive linemen and put them in the NFL.
When he arrived at USC in his first stint, he coached pass-rushers like Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson, Kenechi Udeze and more.
Orgeron is a boisterous coach with a booming and scratchy voice, charismatic and energetic. He's also the ace recruiter for Lane Kiffin and surely had a hand in luring Bigelow out west.
4. Pac-12 Conference Offenses
2 of 5The Pac-12 doesn't shy away from tossing the rock. Heck, Mike Leach is now in the conference at Washington State, so throwing the ball is only going to increase around the country.
So, if I'm a defensive lineman that loves to rush the passer, my thinking has me looking at playing in the Pac-12 because I'm going to get more than enough opportunities to rush the QB every Saturday.
Bigelow loves to stop the run, but he's also a super quick and explosive pass-rusher. Playing in the Pac-12 surely fits his skill set.
3. Chance to Play Early
3 of 5We all know that the Trojans are part of one of the well known schools not afraid to play freshmen.
Lane Kiffin is trying to redshirt as much as he can due to the scholarship limits. But still, if a player is good enough, Kiffin will play him.
Bigelow plays a position that the Trojans need to add some depth to. Combine that with his talent, and seeing him make his Trojan debut very early in his career is very realistic.
2. Los Angeles
4 of 5Now, Bigelow is from Delaware and the greater Northeast Atlantic region of the country. So of course, Los Angeles is likely a big deal to him.
The chance to play for a storied program like USC in a city like Los Angeles, with great weather year round, beaches, attractions and more had to cross Bigelow's mind when USC came calling.
I can say first hand that the City of Angels is great; I'm a native of the place.
1. A Chance to Win and Compete for Championships
5 of 5Now the Trojans will have to decide if Jesse Scroggins, Max Wittek or Cody Kessler will be the next QB to replace Matt Barkley and lead them in a new era when Bigelow arrives, but this team has talent.
Kiffin and Orgeron and the rest of the staff know how to attract and recruit talent, sanctions or no sanctions. So Bigelow will be playing on some quality talented teams when he comes to Heritage Hall.
USC will be in the running to compete for Pac-12 titles and BCS bowls during Bigelow's tenure as a Trojan.
