San Antonio Spurs Sign Austin Croshere for 10-Day Look
Austin Croshere, after being waived on January 6th by the Milwaukee Bucks, has an opportunity to show San Antonio what he can bring to the Spurs after signing a 10-day contract.
The 6'10" shooting forward is most widely known for the nine years he played for the Indiana Pacers. During his career in the NBA, he has averaged 6.8 points and four rebounds per game. He has shot 40.8 percent from the field in his career.
Croshere is known for being a hard-nosed player who can play both the power-forward and small-forward positions. He is also a decent three-point shooter, averaging 33.9 percent in his 11-year career.
Croshere does have playoff and NBA Finals experience, as he helped the 1999-2000 Indiana team reach the Finals for the first time since the ABA/NBA merger.
Croshere has been shuffled around the NBA quite a bit in his career, as he has played for the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, and now San Antonio.
This may be a more solid move than the Spurs made last year when they brought in Damon Stoudemire, who made very little impact. Certainly, Croshere brings more size and power to the Spurs, as well as a long-range shooting threat.
The Spurs I believe are looking for any player available who can potentially fit into Gregg Popovich’s system in San Antonio right now, and Croshere is a low-cost, no-risk investment on a trial basis.
This by no means is an earth-shattering move by the Spurs and will not shake-up the Western Conference race. Croshere may just find his stay in San Antonio to be quite short, unless he displays talent similar to his performance with the Pacers in 1999-2000.
