Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
The first semifinal will renew one of the most bitter rivalries in sports, when the blue-blooded Wildcats of Kentucky take on the red-loving Cardinals of Louisville. Cards head coach Rick Pitino has history in Lexington but will need a miracle it seems if he is to beat his former program.
The Wildcats are 8.5-point favorites over the Cardinals, according to covers.com. Still, its hard to argue that Louisville shouldn't be the underdog, especially considering that Kentucky's average win in the NCAA tourney this March has come by nearly 14 points.
In the nightcap, a couple of No. 2 seeds take the stage for the final spot in Monday night's National Championship Game. The East Region champion Buckeyes have not made the title game since 2007, when they lost to the Florida Gators.
Meanwhile the Kansas Jayhawks are just four years removed from a National Championship. They toppled John Calipari's Memphis squad in overtime in 2008. A Kentucky vs. Kansas NC matchup would provide Calipari with a chance to win his first title against the very coach (Bill Self) and program (Kansas) that broke his heart just a few seasons ago.
Player to Watch For Every Team
Russ Smith (Louisville)—Louisville sophomore Russ Smith has had some tremendous scoring efforts during the NCAA Tournament this March, including a 19-point effort off the bench against Florida in the Elite 8. In the third round against New Mexico, Smith's 17 points, including 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc helped the Cardinals advance with a three-point win.
Anthony Davis (Kentucky)—College Basketball's Player of the Year has been terrorizing opponents on both ends of the floor, but mainly on the defensive side, where he averages 4.5 blocked shots per game in the NCAA Tournament. The freshman has also brought in 44 rebounds in four games for the Wildcats.
Aaron Craft (Ohio State)—Ohio State's defensive-minded point guard has been key in the Buckeyes advancing to the Final Four this March. Craft's 13 steals in four tourney games have resulted in opposing perimeter players' struggles, and his 5.8 assists per game have also been reflected in Ohio State's success.
Jeff Withey (Kansas)—The 7-foot junior from California is getting better as the tourney wears on it seems. Withey recorded a ridiculous 10 blocks against NC State in the Sweet 16 and followed that up with an impressive 15-point, eight-rebound and three-block effort against the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Elite 8. Withey has 20 blocked shots in just four NCAA Tournament games this March.
