2012 NFL Draft: 5 Questions for the Jaguars Moving into April
Ah, the smell of fresh flowers, cut grass and the sand on the beach. Spring (more like summer here in Jacksonville) is in the air and the Jacksonville Jaguars are four weeks away from the NFL Draft.
Pressure mounts and we all lose control.
The Jaguars, other than trying to acquire "you know who" have been fairly quiet in free agency, picking up a few players to fill needs and plug holes while signing some of their own key free agents. There has not been a big spending spree like last season that brought new starters to the defense, and the offense still looks like it needs some help.
There are still questions to be answered for this team as they move forward into April and toward the training camps shortly thereafter (the NFL is a 12-month season).
Here are some questions that need to be answered.
Why Didn't the Team Pursue DE Matt Roth?
1 of 5Roth was signed last season to a 1-year, $3 million contract and was an immediate success as a pass rusher and run stuffer on the line.
The thought was that Roth and Aaron Kampman would create havoc for the season and allow Tyson Alualu and Terrance Knighton to play at a higher level.
Roth was great until he suffered a concussion against Indianapolis and did not play again last season.
Gene Smith stated the Jaguars will be looking at a defensive end in the draft even though Roth could re-sign with the team.
Where Will Eben Britton Fit in the Jaguars' Plans This Season?
2 of 5According to a story in the Florida Times-Union, Britton is on the road to recovery and looks to be the team's starting right tackle.
"“We’re gonna let him work in different areas [during camp], different spots,” Mularkey said. “We are going to let him work around because he is that type of guy. He’s going to be a hard guy to keep off the field because he has that type of mentality. He’s still coming off the injury that we’re hoping he’s ready to go when this camp starts up.”
"
Head coach Mike Mularkey said in the article that Britton is listed as the team's starting right tackle.

Will Eugene Monroe Get a Contract Extention?
3 of 5Monroe is in the final year of his rookie contract.
He played well last season and showed improvement over the course of 2011, fighting through injuries and playing with different lineup changes.
If Eben Britton comes back healthy, this team could be solid up front to protect Blaine Gabbert.
Who Wins in the Battle Between Aaron Ross and Rashean Mathis?
4 of 5When Aaron Ross was signed last week to a contract to solidify the Jaguars' secondary, I assumed he would play in the nickle and provide backup all along the back long.
It has been reported that Ross will challenge for the starting cornerback spot held by Rashean Mathis.
"I think we gotta find a way to pressure the ball more and that’ll really help our secondary even more. We now have some veterans on the back end," Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said.
Can This Team Get over the "Tim Tebow" Hangover?
5 of 5Yes, this town needs to get over this "Tebow Thing."
It's over and done with. The team needs to move on as well, prepare for the draft and get fans excited again.
Tebow would not have helped like people think. There are still holes in other areas of the team that are just as crucial to the success of the Jaguars.
Once everyone stops talking about him and the city moves on, the excitement can return for the upcoming draft.
