Masters Predictions 2012: Top Golfers Who Can't Be Counted on at Augusta
Plenty of fine golfers will step out onto the links at Augusta for the 2012 Masters, which should make for another exciting finish for the green jacket.
But some top golfers, despite their high world ranking, can't be counted on to get it done.
Whether he be a premier golfer who has yet to capture his first major, a bumbling former Masters champion or a young Aussie who had a good run in 2011, some competitors just don't inspire much confidence at Augusta this year.
Here's a look at some top golfers who will disappoint at the 2012 Masters.
Adam Scott
Adam Scott finished second in last year's thrilling Masters, only to be outdone by Charl Schwartzel and he's the No. 10 golfer in the world.
But Scott hasn't had a top-10 finish yet in 2012 and I didn't like how he finished at the Cadillac Championship, shooting a 74 and 71 in the final two rounds.
Scott has the ability to soar back into contention at the Masters and he had his best career finish at Augusta last year, but I just don't see it from Scott this year.
Lee Westwood
Lee Westwood still doesn't have a major championship to his name and he didn't play particularly great golf at the Cadillac Championship, finishing 29th.
Westwood can be playing spectacular golf and still not win a major. I don't see how he wins the Masters when he's not golfing his best. He placed 11th at last year's Masters, and unless he makes a run at the Houston Open, it's hard to give him the victory at Augusta.
Sorry Phil Mickelson fans, but you're favorite golfer in the whole wide world is not playing great golf.
Mickelson has bombed in his past two starts, failing to break 71 in any one round. Ranked 158th in driving accuracy and 107th in greens in regulation headed into the Houston Open, he found himself far behind the pack after a 1-under par in the first round at Redstone.
Mickelson has won three green jackets, but he hasn't resembled the same golfer who won the Houston Open and Masters in 2010. His flailing putting game from 2011 has been replaced with a flailing driving game in 2012.
