Alabama Football Recruiting 2013: Reuben Foster Considers Early Enrollment Move

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Reuben Foster committed to Nick Saban and the reigning BCS champion Alabama Crimson Tide in July of last of year.

He followed his commitment up with a stellar junior season at Troupe County High School in LaGrange, Georgia and has subsequently been ranked the No. 2 overall prospect in the country by both Rivals and Scout.

Because of that, the 6'2", 230-pound superstar's recruitment is not yet over. He's flirted with the in-state Georgia Bulldogs, according to Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as well as 'Bama rival Auburn—all the while maintaining his commitment to the Tide.

He's also been the subject of a possible transfer for his senior season, via Carvell, because his high school coach was fired.

Now, it appears that the firing could actually work in the favor of Saban and the Tide and essentially render all the "flirting" pointless in the process.

Greg Ostendorf of ESPN's TideNation reports that Foster is not only considering a transfer, but a transfer to an Alabama High School that will allow him to graduate in December and enroll early at the University of Alabama:

"

The fact is, Foster is strongly considering transferring high schools before his senior year, but it’s not because of his head coach’s dismissal from Troup County. It’s because Foster wants to find a school that has a plan set up for him to graduate early.

“It’s a possibility, but it’s not because of Coach Flowers,” Foster said. “It’s because I’m trying to get what’s best for me, credit-wise and academic-wise. Troup (County) High School is a nice academic school, but I just can’t graduate early.”

"

Early enrollment is an ever-increasing trend among high school football recruits. It not only gives them an edge to possibly get on the field earlier in their career, but it gives them the opportunity to simply adjust to the life and responsibility of a college student.

We continue to see more and more recruits consider the option if possible, and it is becoming a key selling point for college football programs as well.

If Foster were to enroll at Alabama early, it would all but solidify his place with the Crimson Tide once and for all. He may want to call his visits to, and potential interest in, other schools "rumors," but 'Bama won't rest easy until his letter of intent clears through their fax machine.

The Georgia native is one of nine recruits already committed to Alabama for 2013. There are some very intriguing players—such as running back Altee Tenpenny of North Little Rock High School (North Little Rock, AR) and athlete ArDarius Stewart of Fultondale High School (Birmingham, AL)—but none of the recruits are on Foster's level.

Nick Saban and his staff can't do too much for the potential superstar just yet, but they certainly won't be disappointed if he transfers to an in-state school.
