2012 Fantasy Baseball Projections: Sleepers Destined for Breakout Seasons

Gabe ZaldivarMar 29, 2012

This is a magical time of the year when spring training allows us to day dream what some of our favorite ball players will do int he upcoming season. The more intriguing are the back of the draft sleepers that will make or break your 2012 campaign.

Here is a breakdown of some of the more interesting players left in the later rounds of most drafts. It would be easy to say that Matt Kemp and Robinson Cano are going to put up number, but calling our shots on potential busts is where the fun begins.

Let's sit back and head to fantasy land where some projections serve just as well as pretending to win the lotto.

Here are some of the best sleepers of the bunch and what we can expect of them going forward.

1. Brennan Boesch

We now have a sample size of two major league seasons, one mired in a back-end flameout and the other by a thumb injury.

Still, he put up hit .283 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI in just 472 plate appearances in the 2011 season. I am looking to his patience at the plate in that year to remain hopeful that he stays at near .280 while delivering the power we love as fantasy owner.

Projection: .281, 21 HR, 83  RBI

2. Ike Davis

An ankle injury destroyed a promising season, and I see no reason the budding Mets slugger can't get right back to business in 2012.

We can look for a rebound to what he delivered in 2010. With more maturity at the plate, I see a great batting average with some of the much-needed power given to the Mets lineup.

Projection: .274, 19 HR, 89  RBI

3. Javy Guerra

Things are looking up for the Dodgers, and it's not all because of the new ownership led by Magic Johnson.

There is finally some promise at the back end of the bullpen with Guerra, who completed 21-of-23 saves down the stretch last season.

I see more of the same with a higher strike rate and better velocity coming into the 2012 campaign.

Projection: 2.45 ERA, 37 Saves
