College Football Recruiting 2013: The Most Wide-Open, Prime-Time Recruits
Sometimes it becomes quite obvious which schools a recruit is favoring or leaning toward. They either roll out a top five or so list, or they just name a couple favorites. Other times, you just see the signs of certain schools that are standing out.
Then there are the recruits you just can't get a read on. Sometimes they say one thing and their actions differ, or they just come out and say they are wide open.
Well, for this read, I'm going to give you a couple recruits who are just completely wide open and really don't have anything close to a top five or even a list of favorites.
6. Cooper Bateman, QB
1 of 6You can make an easy argument that Bateman has the strongest arm of any QB prospect in the 2013 class. The 6'3" Utah native has a clear cannon for a right arm and can attack all facets of the field with ease.
5. Vonn Bell, DB
2 of 6Bell is a hitter who can play safety, but has the hips and speed of a corner. He's 6'1", around 190 pounds and has good ball skills. A Tennessean who lives in Georgia, Bell doesn't have any leaders for his services.
He's visited Auburn, Tennessee and Alabama, but nobody is really standing out to him right now.
Sure, that will change soon since he is looking to make a decision before his senior year starts, but if you're a college looking for a safety, throw your name in the Vonn Bell sweepstakes because you still have a shot.
4. Priest Willis, DB
3 of 6Willis is a 6'2", 190-pound safety from Arizona. He's well-versed in defending both the run and pass, thanks to good size, athleticism and quickness.
Willis holds more than 30 scholarship offers and has only visited USC, UCLA and Arizona State so far this spring. Yet, that will change, as he likely will set up more unofficial visits.
Willis says he is very wide open and would like see some SEC schools.
3. Eddie Vandergoes, DL
4 of 6Vandergoes is one of the most versatile defensive linemen in the country. A NorCal native, he's a 6'4", 285-pounder who has great strength, can toss blockers aside and uses his hands very well for a high schooler.
As far as recruiting goes, Vandergoes has no shortage of offers for his services. Ranging from Alabama to UCLA, Penn State, Oregon, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and USC, Vandergoes can pretty much pick where he wants to go.
But that's the thing—he's not close to picking yet. Vandergoes says he doesn't even have a top 10 list of favorites.
2. Su'a Cravens, DB
5 of 6Awhile ago, I though USC was the leader for Cravens, but that doesn't seem to be true anymore. The 6'1", 200-pound 5-star DB/OLB prospect has a plethora of schools after him, and he seems to want to take the process in stride.
He's very wide open and also unpredictable at this point.
1. Montravius Adams, DT
6 of 6Adams is a heck of a talent in the defensive trenches, as the 6'3", 285-pounder is explosive at the snap, flashes the ability to play with a flat back and has good strength. He's a future playmaking type of DT in college.
But right now, that college is up in the air, as Adams claims each school is on equal footing with him, and he has no leaders or favorites.
He's taken visits to Auburn and Georgia, but right now I wouldn't look too hard into that as to where he's leaning.
