WrestleMania 28 Predictions: Big Show and Best Underdog Bets to Win on Big Stage

Mike ChiariMar 28, 2012

It might seem a bit crazy that you can bet on a predetermined sport, but betting outfit Bovada has released betting odds for every WrestleMania 28 match. Seeing as none of us truly know what is going to happen, though, it's just as legitimate as betting on any other sport.

The lines are in money-line form, meaning that if a wrestler is +150 to win, then you would win $150 if you bet $100. It sounds simple enough, so it all comes down to picking the matches correctly. As much as you might think The Undertaker will beat Triple H, it isn't a great bet because you have to put up $900 to win $100.

With that in mind, you are probably best off identifying underdogs with a chance to win. Here are three WrestleMania dogs with the best chance of putting some extra cash in your pocket.

Big Show

The Big Show has been a perennial disappointment at WrestleMania, but he will look to exorcise his past demons on Sunday as he challenges Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship.

Since Rhodes is a rising star and Big Show is in the twilight of his career, it would seem as though Rhodes should be the favorite. The betting line reflects that, as Rhodes is a -140 favorite while Big Show is currently at even money.

This is by far the closest match on the card in terms of the betting line and it is for good reason. As much as most wrestling fans think Rhodes will and should win, the smart money is on Big Show.

For one, while seeing Rhodes with the Intercontinental Championship is great, he rarely defends it and it is holding him back for the most part. Dropping the belt would free him up for a main-event run. Also, Rhodes has gotten the better of Big Show at every turn and has continually referenced his past failures, so it seems obvious to me that Big Show will get his redemption.

The Rock

Seeing as John Cena is the face of the WWE, the overwhelming sentiment is that he will reign supreme against The Rock at WrestleMania. While I don't necessarily disagree with him being a -200 favorite, The Rock is a solid bet at +150. Because The Rock was "passed the torch" by Hulk Hogan a decade ago, most are expecting The Rock to return the favor to Cena.

With as heated as this feud has been, though, I certainly can't see that happening.

The pessimist in me says that Cena will win, but the optimist in me says that The Rock wouldn't have come back to love in his hometown of Miami, Fla. It's honestly quite difficult to come up with a satisfying conclusion to the match as passing the torch would be awful.

A Cena heel turn is continually shot down by the masses, but if The Rock wins, I could see Cena snapping and attacking him after the match. I feel like Rocky is worth a roll of the dice here.

Chris Jericho

Just like Cena vs. The Rock, the WWE Champion is a -200 favorite in his match against +150 underdog Chris Jericho. There are several factors that have contributed to this particular line.

For one, Punk is the No. 2 guy in the company behind Cena in terms of popularity and has yet to pick up a defining win on wrestling's biggest stage. Because of that, this seems like a perfect opportunity for him to establish himself with a win over a great veteran like Jericho.

Also, there is some question with regards to how long Jericho will stick around as he has other ventures to deal with. Seeing as though he has been working house shows, I would say that Y2J is in it for the long haul. If Punk beats Jericho at WrestleMania, then there isn't much point in continuing the feud as Punk also won at Elimination Chamber.

That means Jericho could easily win at 'Mania before dropping the title back to Punk at the next pay-per-view.
