Notre Dame Football Recruiting 2013: David Robinson's Son Is 9th Irish Commit
What did the Notre Dame staff do at their junior day this past weekend?
Corey Robinson, son of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson, is the sixth player to commit to Brian Kelly and the Irish in the past five days as they continue to clean up on the recruiting trail.
The Scout 3-star recruit checks in at 6'4", 195 pounds and still has plenty of room to grow. His father, better known as The Admiral, was a genuine seven-footer.
Corey told Irish Illustrated:
"There was something about it. I can't explain it. ... Me and my dad and my mom, we were just praying about it. We just felt that the Lord gave us a lot of peace when we went on that campus, peace about Notre Dame.
I did not see a reason to wait if I had that peace about it.
"
He's not the only one who was at peace in South Bend.
Robinson's pledge follows up a string of commitments over the last week that includes offensive linemen Colin McGovern of Lincoln-Way West (New Lenox, Ill.), Hunter Bivin of Apollo HS (Owensboro, Ky.), Mike McGlinchey of William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, Pa.), quarterback Malik Zaire of Archbishop Alter (Kettering, Ohio) and athlete Rashad Kinlaw of Absegami HS (Galloway, N.J.).
The six newest commits join James Onwualu of Cretin-Derham Hall (St. Paul, Minn.), tackle Steve Elmer of Midland HS (Midland, Mich.) and tight end Jacob Matuska of Bishop Hartley (Columbus, Ohio).
The 2013 class heading for South Bend now has nine recruits and counting. Landing Robinson, the second wide receiver commit of 2013, was a solid get for Kelly as he continues to look for capable weapons for his spread offense.
We shouldn't expect the world from Robinson immediately, who also had offers from his father's alma mater Navy, as well as Iowa, Kansas and Wake Forest. However, he'll continue to grow and develop and could be a very dangerous weapon down the line.
Notre Dame will continue to pursue wide receivers and cornerbacks above all other positions.
You can catch me talking football and throwing seven different kinds of smoke on Twitter.
