McDonald's All American Roster 2012: Which College Teams Are Best Represented?

Eric BowmanJun 1, 2018

The 2012 McDonald's All American Game is a great event featuring the stars of tomorrow, and in this year's game, some college programs are represented very well.

When viewing the roster, fans will notice that of the participants, only four players have to make a decision about where they'll play college ball.

Not every incoming freshman will contribute right away, but these stars will have a very good chance to significantly help a team.

With that said, here's a look at some of the best-represented college teams at the 2012 McDonald's All American Game.

North Carolina State

Of the 24 players on the roster, three players are committed to play college hoops for the Wolfpack.

Those three players are point guard Tyler Lewis of Oak Hill Academy (Va.), shooting guard Rodney Purvis of Upper Room Christian Academy (N.C.) and small forward T.J. Warren of Brewster Academy (N.H.).

All three are members of the East team in the 2012 McDonald's All American Game.

North Carolina State had a surprise run in the 2012 NCAA tournament, and the Wolfpack are about to get even better. This was a huge recruiting win for the Wolfpack, because keeping up with Duke and North Carolina in the ACC is no easy task.

Arizona

The Wildcats have two players in the 2012 McDonald's All American Game, and both are playing on the West team.

Power forward Brandon Ashley of Findlay Prep (Nev.) and power forward Grant Jerrett of La Verne Lutheran (Calif.) are both headed to Arizona.

Ashley is 6'9", as is Jerrett, and both are definitely players to keep an eye out for next year.

The Wildcats had an OK year in the Pac-12 this season, but both Ashley and Jerrett will make big impacts for Arizona in 2013.

Kentucky

John Calipari is one of the best recruiters in the history of college basketball, and he's about to bring in another strong group of freshmen studs.

Kentucky has a young team right now, but the Wildcats are sure to lose some star players to the NBA. While it's unfortunate, it is a part of the game, and luckily for them, the Wildcats constantly bring in top-notch talent.

The two players participating in the 2012 McDonald's All American Game who have committed to play for Kentucky are small forward Alex Poythress of Northeast (Tenn.), who is playing on the East team, and shooting guard Archie Goodwin of Sylvan Hills (Ark.), who is playing on the West team.

There are also some undecided players considering Kentucky, which means the Wildcats have a chance to surpass North Carolina State once each prospect has made his college choice.

The most notable undecided recruit is small forward Shabazz Muhammad, and if he decides to play for Kentucky, the Wildcats will be a team to fear once again.
