SEC Football: Weekly Recruiting Roundup

Barrett SalleeJun 7, 2018

Every Wednesday here at The SEC Blog, we will update you on the latest commits, decommits and rumors in the recruiting world.

Commitments:

- Roderick Johnson, a three-star offensive tackle from Delray Beach, Fla., chose to play his college football with his home-state Florida Gators.  The 6'5", 315-pounder chose Florida over South Florida, West Virginia and SMU, according to 247sports.com.

- Georgia got a pledge from Johnny O'Neal, a 6'3", 213-pound linebacker from West Laurens High School in Dublin, Ga.  Rated as a three-star prospect by 247sports.com, O'Neal is a perfect fit to play inside linebacker in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's 3-4 system.

- Also committing over the weekend was four-star defensive end Carl Lawson, who made his commitment to the Auburn Tigers.  At 6'3", 245, Lawson is a pure pass-rusher that has a motor that doesn't stop running.  Lawson has the size to come in and play in the SEC right now, but will have to improve against the run to see playing time right away.

- Defensive end/tight end Jonathan Wynn committed to play for James Franklin's Vanderbilt Commodores in 2013.  The 6'4", 217-pounder visited Nashville last weekend, and fell in love with the place, according to 247sports.com.

- Also committing to the 'Dores was four-star linebacker Nigel Bowden from Macon, Ga.  At 6'1", 230, Bowden has the size to play inside linebacker in the SEC immediately for Vandy.

- Alabama got a pledge from 6'4", 325-pound offensive lineman from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Ga.  Dodd chose the Tide over offers from Florida State, LSU, Georgia Tech and Maryland.

News and Rumors:

- In last week's recruiting roundup, we told you about Georgia's open position for On-Campus Recruiting Director.  Since retiring from the NFL last week, former Bulldog Hines Ward has been hanging around the football program quite a bit, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.  Could Ward be in line for this position?  We'll see.
