Fantasy Baseball Sleepers 2012: Trevor Cahill and Biggest Steals out There

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Major League Baseball season is about to start, but before it gets underway, fans everywhere are trying to get the best possible fantasy team.

The best way to do that is by landing some hidden gems in the draft that will help carry you to victory.

It's a long season, and each fantasy player will make several changes throughout the year, but landing quality players in late rounds is the key to success.

That being said, here are some of the best steals out there.

Trevor Cahill, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks

Traded in the offseason, Cahill joins a new team looking to make a big splash.

Cahill is a sinker-ball pitcher that generates a lot of ground balls, and his new home should be kind to him. He is being drafted in the later rounds, typically around the 19th or 20th round.

Starting pitchers should be selected later rather than sooner in fantasy baseball, and Cahill is one of those guys you can afford to sit back and wait on, simply because he's going to be a quality pitcher in 2012.

Look for him to put up solid numbers throughout the year. He's not an ace in the real world or the fantasy realm, but Cahill will be a great addition to your team.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks

Yes, another Arizona player considered a steal in fantasy baseball. This doesn't mean I think the Diamondbacks are going all the way or anything—just that they've got some underrated players that will do better than most think.

One of those guys is Goldschmidt, who besides having an awesome last name, is a very powerful hitter.

He bats in the No. 7 spot, which means he's a prime candidate for several RBI this year. Goldschmidt is being drafted around the 17th round.

Expect Goldschmidt to swing the bat hard this season to not only get on base but score runs as well.

Jason Kipnis, 2B, Cleveland Indians

Another guy being drafted near the 18th round or so, Kipnis is a definite steal this season.

He isn't a dominant player by any means, but everything he does, he does it well.

A great overall player, Kipnis is bound for great success in 2012. He's got the speed on the base path that you'll love, as well as the contact power to get a clutch hit with runners in scoring position.

Look for Kipnis to surpass several expectations in 2012, helping the Indians to make a strong push toward the postseason.
