College Football Recruiting 2013: 4-Star Miami Commit Wisely Keeps Options Open

Wes ODonnellMar 27, 2012

Patience is one thing that Miami Hurricanes coach Al Golden is going to need to ride out the potential punishments heading his way.

Patience on the field, patience off the field and patience in the living room of recruits across the country.

The former Temple coach has done a fair job holding things together thus far, but as the Hurricanes await the NCAA's ruling on wrongdoings that have nothing to do with Golden and his regime, they have to know that things are likely going to get worse before they get better.

The coach nabbed a top 10 class in 2012, but that will be difficult to repeat in 2013.

The 'Canes have earned pledges from only four recruits thus far, and the headliner, Rivals 4-star athlete Jayron Kearse, is "solid" in his commitment, but hasn't closed the door on any other schools just yet.

Scout recruiting analyst Chad Simmons quotes the Florida native as saying:

"

I am pretty strong with Miami right now, but I am keeping an eye on the sanctions they could get hit with. If they do not get hit too hard by the NCAA, then I am going to Miami, but if they do, then I will be looking around.I

"

The 6'4", 205-pound star from Fort Myers has already switched his commitment from Auburn to Miami, and he could be in line for a second switch if the hammer comes down from the NCAA.

In most cases, that would be a bit of red flag, but he's not wrong to approach the 'Canes with caution. With schools like USC, Georgia, Louisville, Clemson, South Carolina and Auburn still showing interest, as he says they are, it is hard not too listen—especially with so much uncertainty clouding Miami's future.

Kearse has no shortage offers, and he could essentially have his pick of the litter when all is said and done.

This summer will be busy for him, as Simmons reports he plans to visit Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina and USC.

All Al Golden can do is sit and wait, but don't expect Kearse to do the same if the Hurricanes wind up in serious trouble.
