McDonald's All-American Game Roster 2012: Shabazz Muhammad and Stars to Watch

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

The McDonald's All-American Game represents one of the final chances for high school basketball stars to show off their skills before heading off to college. It's especially important for undeclared recruits who are still trying to impress interested programs.

Let's take a look at three of the game's biggest stars. From a complete look at the East and West team rosters, click here (via ESPN).

Shabazz Muhammad (West)

Muhammad still hasn't decided on a school, but he's received interest from Kentucky and Duke, among other marquee schools, according to Rivals. The 6'6'' forward is one of the most highly-touted recruits in the nation, so it's no surprise that he's exploring his options.

His best attribute is being able to create his own shot. Whether that means driving to the bucket for a layup or stepping back to take a mid-range jumper, he can do it. That's a quality that most players need several college seasons to develop.

Look for him to come out on a mission to stand out from the crowd to prove he deserves all the praise he's received.

Isaiah Austin (West)

Playing alongside Muhammad on the West squad will be one of the nation's most talented high school big men in Austin. He's already committed to Baylor, which is a perfect fit for him because the Bears have developed plenty of long, athletic forwards.

At 7'0'', he's already an accomplished defender like most young players of his size. Adding more versatility to his game on the offensive game will be the biggest key moving forward. If he can develop some effective post moves, he'll be a monster in the paint.

It will be interesting to see how he performs in a game with a much higher level of opposing talent, but there shouldn't be an issues as long as he remains aggressive.

Kyle Anderson (East)

Anderson is listed as a small forward, but the 6'8'' future star has played a lot of guard. That will benefit him greatly because players of that size usually don't have the ability to run an offense like he can. It also means he can guard multiple positions.

The UCLA commit will probably rotate throughout the game to illustrate his wide range of skills. He's the biggest star on the East team, so he'll be looked at to keep things moving. In showcase games like this, both teams always need somebody to step up as the lead, a role Anderson should fill.

Eventually, he'll need to settle into a single role, but as for now, it will be fun watching him attempt to do it all.
