WWE Debate: Should WWE Announce WrestleMania 29 Main Event a Year in Advance?
Feuds that extend across years, rather than months or weeks, are becoming the new trend in the WWE.
When you look at the WrestleMania 28 lineup, the top four feuds all go back about a year in some way, shape or form.
The Rock and John Cena began planting the seeds of their feud even prior to WrestleMania 27, Triple H and The Undertaker’s feud goes back to when Taker beat Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26. The rivalry between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus started at last year’s WrestleMania when those two faced off in the dark match.

The feud between CM Punk and Chris Jericho extends back to when CM Punk started calling himself the best in the world and Jericho began ripping Punk on Twitter.
As you can see, the WWE has recently used some precise long-term planning to build up to the top WrestleMania feuds, and there are rumors that the creative team will do that again in 2012.
"WWE officials are looking to announce the main event for WrestleMania 29 this year—possibly on the RAW Supershow the night after WrestleMania 28. The belief is that the RAW after WrestleMania 28 will be the highest-rated of the year.
Right now officials are looking at John Cena, The Rock, Steve Austin and The Undertaker as the top guys to build next year around. Regarding Austin, he has not committed to wrestling another match yet.
"
The question is whether it should this happen? If so, should the WWE announce the WrestleMania 29 main event so far in advance?
I say yes, assuming it makes sense, of course.
One of the biggest problems that the WWE has when it is not WrestleMania season is a lack of long-term planning. Feuds seem rushed, storylines make little to no sense and there is no clear direction for the future.
But I have to commend the WWE for doing a tremendous job of building up this year’s WrestleMania and doing so because it planned for the long-term.
While WrestleMania 28 is yet to happen, there is a ton of hype surrounding, in particular, three WrestleMania matches (Rock/Cena, HHH/Taker and Punk/Y2J). As noted, the common denominator between those three feuds is that we knew that they were going to happen almost a year ago.
Some call it predictably. I call it excellent booking.
A feud that gets a year or more of build-up is a feud that gets to develop. It’s a feud that—unlike Randy Orton vs. Kane—isn’t just thrown together because two guys have nothing better to do at WrestleMania.
If we find out on the Raw after WrestleMania 28 what the WrestleMania 29 main event will be, then the same thing will to happen to whatever that feud is that happened to the three feuds I’ve mentioned.
It’s going to be phenomenally executed and incredibly entertaining.
We can and will criticize the WWE all we want for how the company books its 11 other pay-per-views, but when it comes to WrestleMania, these guys don’t play around.
There is a very specific plan of what WWE officials want to accomplish. They are going to do everything in their power to make sure that that plan comes to fruition, to make sure that they can put on at least one, if not more, incredible main event at WrestleMania every year.
If that means announcing the WrestleMania 29 main event roughly a year in advance, then so be it.
WrestleMania28 has proved so far that doing so can result in a pay-per-view for the ages.
