Rashad Evans on Jon Jones: "I Think Style-Wise I Am All Wrong for Him"
Rashad Evans will prepare for Jon Jones in one of the biggest grudge matches in UFC history. The rivals will headline UFC 145 on April 21st.
In anticipation of the upcoming event, Evans will be featured as a guest columnist on Yahoo! Sports, sharing his opinion and personal experiences leading up to his title bout.
In his first entry, Evans spoke about the significance of defeating the 24-year-old Jones and the importance of becoming the UFC light heavyweight champion.
"In one month, on April 21 in Atlanta, I’m getting my title back but, to me, beating Jon Jones up and proving I am the better man and better fighter is even more important than waking up the next day as a two-time UFC champion," Evans wrote. "On April 21, at UFC 145, beating Jon Jones up means everything to me. I want to smash him up so bad."
Evans' highly-publicized feud with Jones dates back to last year when the former UFC light heavyweight champion was forced out of his title bout with then-champion, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. This allowed Jones to replace his former teammate and capture the 205-pound title in impressive fashion at UFC 128.
The win would ultimately setup a bout between Evans and Jones, but injuries to both fighters would delay the contest.
Since then, Jones has looked virtually unbeatable, but Evans is confident in his abilities and believes he is a bad stylistic matchup for the champion.
"I heard a stat about Jon that he’s never been taken down in the UFC. But I’ve taken him down plenty, and I know he can’t fight off his back. I think my takedowns will be a key to this fight," he wrote. "I think style-wise I am all wrong for him."
