WWE WrestleMania 28: Ranking the Undertaker's Previous 19 WrestleMania Matches

Gone Baby GoneMar 27, 2012

We are just days away from the biggest wrestling event of the year.

Not only is one of the biggest matches ever going to take place, but two other men are putting their legacy on the line.

Their  match is being dubbed "The End of an Era", as both combatants have had storied careers and are on the tail end of their journey.

Obviously, we won't know the outcome of The Undertaker vs Triple H until Sunday, April 1st.

So, in preparation for this epic battle, I have composed am article rating The Undertakers previous 19 WrestleMania matches.  The way I will determine the placement, was based on both wrestlers performances, hype factor, and overall match quality.

Keep in mind, you may not entirely agree with my view or rating of these matches. If that's the case feel free to leave your ranking in the comment section.

Also, if you like what you have read, don't be shy, become a fan.

Number 19: Giant Gonzalez WrestleMania 9

1 of 19

Giant Gonzalez was supposed to be the next great big man for the WWE.

Sadly that never happened.

In fact, it was during this match that you actually could see how bad Gonzalez was.

Unfortunately, this match was not Mania worthy. However, The Undertaker managed to make Gonzalez look better than he was by selling his moves and being carried off in a stretcher.

In the end, The Undertaker would come back and go on to win the match.

Number 18: Big Show and A-Train WrestleMania 19

2 of 19

This was a terrible match for the Undertaker and quite frankly had nothing to offer.

The fact that Nathan Jones was the catalyst for The Undertaker's win, really shows how bad this match was.

Number 17: Jimmy Snuka WrestleMania 7

3 of 19

Every legend has to start somewhere and unfortunately for Jimmy Snuka, he would find himself as the "Dead Man's" first WrestleMania victim.

At this point Snuka had been wrestling for several years and was not the Snuka of old.

To me, it appeared this match was used to show The Undertaker's dominance.

As he pretty much had control over the entire match.

Number 16: Jake "The Snake' Roberts WrestleMania 8

4 of 19

Jake "The Snake" Roberts, was still in pretty descent shape.

Much like Snuka, Roberts had been around for some time and found himself being dominated throughout most of the match.

It appeared to me, that when the WWE was beginning this streak, they were bent on making The Undertaker destroy his opponents.

This match ranks a tad bit higher than the Snuka match, because Roberts lasted longer and actually got Taker down a few times.

Number 15: King Kong Bundy WrestleMania 11

5 of 19

This was the first year that Undertaker was made to look vulnerable.

Bundy did his usual solid job of playing the big man role.

Then, at one point, Ted Dibiase and Kama Mustafa came out and stripped away the urn from Paul Bearer. To many fans it seemed like they found a weakness for The Undertaker.

However, that was not entirely the case, as Taker would go on to beat King Kong Bundy.

Overall, the match was good on many different levels. As, not only was there a story in the ring, but there was one unfolding outside of the ring as well.

Number 14: Big Boss Man WrestleMania 15

6 of 19

This Hell in a Cell match, was considered to be one of the worst.

Mostly due to the fact that there was no real high spots off of the structure. So, it was essentially just a steel cage match and nothing more.

However, for some odd reason the WWE decided that the Big Boss Man needed to be hung by a noose from the cell in order to have closure to this match

Number 13: Diesel WrestleMania 12

7 of 19

Both of these men were in their prime and it showed, as each came out to prove that they were the big dog.

In the end, this match was great but was not top 10 worthy as it clearly was made just to put two big men against each other.

Number 12: Sycho Sid WrestleMania 13

8 of 19

These two men should have crossed paths back in the NWA/WCW.

As at some point both Undertaker and Sid were one half of the Skyscrappers with "Dangerous" Dany Spivey.

Sid wound up being sidelined due to injury and a young Undertaker, who was going by "Mean" Mark Callous took Sid's place.

Once Sid returned from injury, he was placed into the Four Horseman, and a few months later Callous began his legendary journey to the WWE.

Once again, this match was just average, as it was mostly a feature match pitting two big men against each other.

The biggest difference between this and the Diesel match is Sid was more polished and there was history between the two.

Not to mention, this was also the first time The Undertaker was the challneger for the WWE title at WrestleMania.

Number 11: Mark Henry WrestleMania 22

9 of 19

Ah, there is nothing quite like a match pitting two big men against each other and a casket.

In the end, even with the casket stipulation it was pretty clear that The Undertaker was going to win this one.

As Mark Henry had yet to develop his mean tough guy character and Taker was a much better performer at this juncture.

Number 10: Ric Flair WrestleMania 18

10 of 19

If only these two had met during Flairs original stint in the early 90's.

This was a solid match, but it would have been better with a younger Flair.

Let's face it, no matter what age Flair is he knows how to sell and really put his opponent over.

Now if he was given this opportunity way beck when, we may have seen a better match.

Number 9: Kane WrestleMania 20

11 of 19

Any time the "Brothers of Destruction" step in the ring, you know your getting a good match and WrestleMania 20 was no different.

This year was special for two reasons as it not only celebrated 20 years of "The Grandaddy of Them All", it also marked the return of The Undertaker's "Dead Man" gimmick.

Number 8: Randy Orton WrestleMania 21

12 of 19

Randy Orton was going by The Legend Killer and still in the early stages of his career.

Up until this point he had taken out several WWE Legends and had set his sights on The Undertaker.

Even though he lost, this was a solid match and gave the fans a glimpse of what was to come for The Viper.

Number 7: Batista WrestleMania 23

13 of 19

Batista was in the midst of a big push and his skills really shined through in this match.

Even though he did not win he proved that he was worth being a part of WWE's biggest event.

Number 6: Kane WrestleMania 14

14 of 19

This match marked the first time these two would meet and it did not disappoint.

After making short work of Pete Rose, Kane gave his brother a run for his money and proved he could go toe-to-toe with Taker.

Number 5: Edge WrestleMania 24

15 of 19

This match was special for two reasons.

For starters, Edge was in the prime of his career and owning the blue brand.

Meanwhile, this match also marked the third time The Undertaker would challenge for a singles title at WrestleMania.

In the end, the match was solid and really showcased each stars strengths.

However, it was not in the cards for Edge to retain his gold, as Taker not only kept the streak alive but walked away champ.

Number 4: Triple H WrestleMania 27

16 of 19

Triple H had revenge on his mind.

Even though it went virtually ignored by the WWE, lost to The Undertaker almost 10 years prior and now he wanted to avenge his D-X mate's loss one year prior.

After a hard fought match it appeared Triple H was poised to end the streak. That was until a fatal flaw cost him the match.

Even though Taker won, he was definitely the worse for wear of the two.

Number 3: Triple H WrestleMania 17

17 of 19

This marked the first time that these two would meet at WrestleMania and it proved to be a solid match.

Even though both men at the top of their game, they still made good use of any and everything they could to gain advantage over the other.

Number 2: Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 26

18 of 19

Shawn Michaels was just one year shy of losing to The Undertaker.

This year he was looking to exact revenge and take out "The Dead Man".

So much was riding on this match, as Michaels was so desperate to win he put his career on the line.

Number 1: Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 25

19 of 19

This match was probably the all-time best WrestleMania match for the Undertaker.

It marked the first time that he and Michaels met at "The Grandaddy of Them All" and they both proved why they are the best in the business.

After several amazing moves and grueling moments, The Undertaker would come out victorious.

To me this was the "Dead Man's" greatest match and may never be topped.
