The Magic Unfolds: Who Will Reign Supreme in the Premier League?

Salaar ShamsiJan 16, 2009

Fast approaching the end of January, The Premier League's top two places are held by Liverpool and Manchester United respectively though the Red Devils are two points behind, with a game in hand.

A lack-lustre Chelsea aren't much behind - two points adrift of United, courtesy of a 3-0 thrashing at hands of the Red Devils themselves but a recent fall from grace for Luiz Felipe Scolari's men has almost surely ruled them out of the title race - or has it?

Chelsea might have looked dull during their trip to Old Trafford but to rule them out of the race in January with a squad that boasts the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Deco and John Terry would be foolish to say the least.

Having said that, much to the disgust of Arsenal supporters - the same cannot be said for the Gunners who are indeed eight points behind leaders, Liverpool and currently out of the Top Four courtesy of Aston Villa.

To add to their woes, Cesc Fabregas has confirmed he won't be able to return to football till April at the earliest. The Barcelona target joins Thomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott on Arsenal's injury list. Eduardo is near a full recovery.

Now we move our attention to Liverpool. The Scousers face Everton in the highly anticipated Merseyside Derby on Monday. And the Reds could go into the game in second place if Manchester United are able to claim a victory in their visit to Bolton on Saturday.

Fernando Torres is back to form, Robbie Keane scoring goals and Steven Gerrard as good as ever, the story couldn't be better for Liverpool. But in truth the Reds are under heavy pressure from the Red Devils, who will missing the likes of Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra, when they travel to the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.

So the script is panned out perfectly, numerous injuries and suspensions but the drama and excitement of the Premier League besides it's hype and glamour is as prominent as ever.

A sense of magic has unfolded in the Barclays Premier League with a never-ending trend of 90th minute winners and equalizers. Damien Duff, Tim Cahill, Maynor Figueroa and many more.

Watch as the much acclaimed 'Big Four' drop points in the same game-week, a real set of coincidences?

You are warned, do not get overwhelmed by Manchester City's extraordinary spending or the much hyped arrival of Kaka (if he ever comes) into the relegation battle, for there is much more at stake.
