WWE WrestleMania 28: Predicting Which Match Will Be the Best and Why

Ryan DilbertMar 27, 2012

The WrestleMania 28 card is stacked. Championship matches, a Hell in a Cell encounter between two legends, and the return of one of the most beloved superstars ever will highlight the show.

But CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho will be the best of the bunch.

The build-up, the chemistry and the immense talent of both performers will equal WrestleMania gold.

Every WrestleMania seems to have its defining match, the battle that we remember long after the event's conclusion. WrestleMania 13 had Stone Cold vs. Bret Hart. WrestleMania 25 had Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker.

If we're lucky, we get two classics in one night.

As good as Punk vs. Jericho could be, the rest of WrestleMania 28 is going to make a run at it for the right to be crowned the greatest.

WWE is banking on John Cena vs. the Rock drawing fans, and Daniel Bryan and Sheamus certainly have the potential to steal the show.

Still, there are just too many deficiencies in the other matches.

If this were just a few years ago, I'd bet on Triple H vs. Undertaker being the best match on the card. But the PG limitations will likely water down the Hell in a Cell experience—we're not going to see anyone getting sliced open with a barbed wire bat.

The Undertaker has stolen the show several years in a row, but his ring rust lessens the chance of it happening once again.

John Cena vs. the Rock will no doubt be the biggest match of the night. but what will the in-ring action look like?

The Rock hasn't wrestled full time in years. Cena is talented and good at a number of things. He rarely, though, has the best match of the night.

The Rock works best with speedy guys like Chris Jericho, technical marvels like Chris Benoit, and, of course, Steve Austin. Cena's lumbering style doesn't seem like a good fit.

And why not Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus?

Bryan has already put on his share of all-time classics and could have some intriguing chemistry with Sheamus.

The lack of build-up will hurt this, however, as the WWE has largely ignored this match in spite of its championship implications.

Unlike some of the most bitter wars seen in a wrestling ring, it doesn't feel like these men particularly have any reason to hate each other.

The greatness of this will largely be determined by how it is booked and how much the crowd is into it.

Thus, the smart money is ultimately on Punk and Jericho.

Unlike the Rock, Chris Jericho has been working since returning from a long absence. Punk's kicks and submissions should blend beautifully with Jericho's speed and spring-boarding attacks.

The build-up to their battle has been nasty. Jericho has dug into Punk with personal attacks we've never seen Punk have to withstand.

There should be heat emanating from these men with how much hatred they've built.

Though Punk has been WWE champ for months, the company has still leaned on Cena as its main man. Punk is a confident wrestler who genuinely believes in his own talent.

It has to bug him that despite putting on better matches and delivering better promos than Cena, that Punk has yet to get the proper respect he deserves.

WrestleMania 28 is a chance for him to show why he belongs solely on top of WWE.

Though Jericho is no youngster at 41, he and Punk are likely to make the Undertaker and Triple H match looks like it's in slow motion.

Will the Rock revive his WrestleMania magic? Will Undertaker once again extend his streak while putting on an award-winning match?

Or will Jericho and Punk collaborate to bring us WrestleMania 28's defining match?
