College Football Recruiting: 6 Spring Games That Always Impress Recruits
Spring football is an important part of a team's foundation for the season, as it really gives the program a chance to refine technique, implement play concepts and prepare the team for summer camp.
It all comes to a head with a team's spring game. What's also neat about spring games is the fact that fans and former players alike all flock to get a glimpse of how the team looks for the fall.
But another huge aspect of the spring game is of course the recruiting value of it. Recruits usually take in a spring game as an unofficial visitor, and if you do it right as a program, you can prepare the current team on the field and impress recruits off it.
6. USC: The Trojan Huddle
1 of 6The Men of Troy usually call their spring game "The Trojan Huddle," and this year it will be held on Saturday, April 14.
The Trojans get after it in the Coliseum, and it is usually a huge draw. In 2008, 22,000 people were present for the game just to see how the Trojans were looking for the upcoming season.
This year should be no different. With a potential Heisman Trophy-winner and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick returning in Matt Barkley, plus a loaded Trojans team, USC will be a preseason Top Five squad in 2012.
5. Florida State: Garnet and Gold Game
2 of 6The "Garnet and Gold" game will held on April 4 this year.
Florida State always attracts a large crowd, and last year it even added an alumni flag football game. This particular spring game has a homecoming feel to it, as many old 'Noles come back to see how the new squad looks.
Recruits always come to see how FSU looks at the Garnet and Gold game, and Jimbo Fisher uses it as a big recruiting tool to impress potential new Seminoles.
4. Ohio State: Scarlet and Gray Game
3 of 6Last year, 44,000 people showed up to watch the Scarlet and Gray game at Ohio State. That's impressive.
With the Buckeyes being nearly, and maybe even more, popular than the Cleveland Browns around the state of Ohio, OSU football is a big deal.
People flock to this game, and recruits join the fun. With Urban Meyer making his debut on the sidelines and being one of the greatest recruiting coaches in history, this thing will be rockin' on April 21.
3. Texas: Orange-White Game
4 of 6The Orange-White game draws about 35,000 people—in a down year. Usually the attendance figures are in the 45,000 range, and there is an interesting aspect to this game.
Many of the recruits who attend this game are actually Texas commits since the Longhorns gobble up commitments all through February and March.
The game will be televised live on the Longhorn Network on April 1.
2. Florida: Orange and Blue Debut
5 of 6This game drew more than 53,000 last year and will probably draw that and more this year. Recruits around the Sunshine State flock to the Gators' spring game.
Taking place on April 7, the Gators figure to host some of the nation's best prospects to impress them with the incredibly large following of their program, their stadium, game-day atmosphere and facilities.
1. Alabama: A-Day Spring Game
6 of 6The Crimson drew in a mind-blowing 92,310 people to their spring game last year, which is the most all time in school history.
The A-Day game is a huge deal, and Crimson Tide football has some of the most devoted fans in all of sports. With the way 'Bama has recruited under Nick Saban, this surely is a prosperous asset and tool they use to impress recruits with the electric atmosphere around campus.
Can they top 100,000 this year? We'll see on April 14.
