College Football Recruiting 2013: 5 Questions for No. 1 Overall Robert Nkemdiche

Edwin WeathersbyMar 25, 2012

Loganville Grayson DL Robert Nkemdiche is the nation's No. 1 overall player, prospect and recruit for 2013. It's pretty much a consensus among talent evaluators from around the country, including myself.

Nkemdiche is firmly entrenched in the same breath as Jadeveon Clowney, Noah Spence and Mario Edwards, and Nkemdiche can even hold his weight against many other top-notch defensive line prospects who have come out over the years.

For this read, I'm going to ask five burning questions as to his recruitment. Don't question yourself about reading this, though!

5. Is Playing Running Back a Realistic Possibility?

1 of 5

At 6'5" and 270 pounds, Nkemdiche pounds on the hoof in pads, and his high school coaches let him tote the rock. To me, I think it's almost illegal to even have him allowed to run with the ball because this guy just bullies tacklers.

Nkemdiche ran for 528 yards and 17 touchdowns as a part-time running back, so it begs the question, is running back actually his best position?

4. Is He "Bust-Proof"?

2 of 5

I've put Nkemdiche on my "surefire, can't-miss" prospect list, as he has all the physical tools to not only excel in college but to also be a dominant player.

There's nothing, athletically, that Nkemdiche can't do. He's big (6'5", 270 pounds), strong, powerful, agile, speedy, quick, athletic, balanced and super-competitive.

I think, at the very worst, he'll be an above-average player in college and a low-round NFL draft pick.

Again, that's at the very worst.

3. Which Schools Have a Realistic Chance at Landing Him?

3 of 5

Earlier this month, Nkemdiche told Chad Simmons of Scout.com that he has a top seven in no specific order of Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Oregon and Clemson.

Those are pretty much the top schools in the mix for Nkemdiche, and they have the best chance to land him. Each school has reason to be confident but, in my opinion, there are a few that stand out.

Alabama is my personal prediction, but Clemson is a real dark-horse to watch out for. LSU is up there, and don't count out Ole Miss; Nkemdiche's brother is on the Rebels roster.

2. When Will He Decide?

4 of 5

Now, you would think that with a player of Nkemdiche's status, celebrity and caliber he will wait until National Signing Day to announce.

That doesn't seem to be the plan.

Nkemdiche will likely make his announcement on May 18 after his high school spring game. Six colleges are going to be upset that day, but one school will have hit the lottery.

1. Has a Decision Already Been Made?

5 of 5

Nkemdiche recently told Scout.com that another reason why he thinks May 18 is a good day to announce is because he has a "good idea" where he wants to go and doesn't want to stall any longer.

He's been to Alabama several times over the past year, is athletic to play the JACK OLB position in the Crimson Tide's scheme and the Tide have been viewed as the favorite for a good duration of Nkemdiche's recruitment.

I predict Nkemdiche will be playing in Tuscaloosa next year.
