Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
The road to the Final Four seemed nearly impossible to navigate for both teams when the tournament field of 68 was released two weeks ago. However, the shocking first-round exit of No. 2 Missouri to No. 15 Norfolk State opened the bracket for Florida and set the stage for what will be an incredible West Region Final on Saturday.
Freshman Bradley Beal leads Florida into its biggest game of the year thus far, and will be key for the Gators if they are to reach the Final Four in New Orleans. Beal is averaging 16.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in the NCAA tournament and is developing into a game-changer at the shooting guard position.
Meanwhile Louisville sophomore Gorgui Dieng has been a wrecking ball in the paint, averaging nearly nine boards per contest and blocking four shots per game during the Cardinals' tourney run. Dieng made life miserable around the rim for No. 1 Michigan State's bigs and will look to do the same on Saturday.
No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 1 Syracuse, East Region Final
In the second matchup at TD Garden in Boston, the Syracuse Orange will attempt to become the first No. 1 seed to punch their ticket to the Final Four. It won't be easy, though. Ohio State is led by sophomore Deshaun Thomas. The 6'7" forward has had a superb tournament thus far, averaging 25 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for the Buckeyes, a team-high in both categories.
For the Orange it truly has been a team effort since Fab Melo was ruled out of the Big Dance because of eligibility issues. Sophomore Dion Waiters leads Syracuse in scoring in the tourney, but will require help from Kris Joseph, Scoop Jardine and James Southerland if the Orange are to win the East.
The x-factor for the Buckeyes will be Jared Sullinger, who has the potential to struggle mightily against the vaunted Syracuse 2-3 zone. The sophomore forward has gotten better in every game since the tournament began, but the Orange provide a much tougher obstacle on Saturday.
