Kentucky vs Indiana Score: Video Highlights, Twitter Reaction and Grades

Nicholas GossJun 5, 2018

Kentucky defeated a talented Indiana team, 102-90, on Friday night to advance to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season.

The Wildcats' opponent in the Elite Eight will be No. 3 seed Baylor, with the winner capturing the South Region title and earning a trip to the Final Four in New Orleans.

Kentucky just had too much offensive firepower for Indiana to match. Even though Hoosiers fans are disappointed that their season is over, the future is very bright for Indiana basketball.

Tweets of the Night

ESPN's Dan Schulman thinks whichever NBA team drafts Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be lucky, and he's absolutely right.

"

Whenever Kidd-Gilchrist decides to go pro, whatever team gets him should consider themselves lucky. Guys with his motor thrive in the NBA

— Dan Shulman (@DShulman_ESPN) March 24, 2012"

Alex Bozich of Inside the Hall makes a point about Kentucky forward Anthony Davis that I tend to agree with; the freshman is a tremendous defensive player.

"

With Davis on the floor, who beats Kentucky? He's just a freak defensively.

Madison Taylor of the Times-News in Burlington (NC) makes an interesting historical comparison to Friday's Kentucky-Indiana battle.

"

Kentucky-Indiana playing up and down the floor like N.C. State-Maryland in 1974.

John Rothstein of CBS Sports with an interesting take on next season's preseason No. 1. Will it be Indiana if Cody Zeller stays?

"

Indiana could be the preseason number one next year if Cody Zeller returns. Hoosiers incredibly sound on offense. Breathtaking at times.

Grades for Key Kentucky Players

Anthony Davis: C

Even though Davis played well defensively, he wasn't able to get off to a good start because he picked up two early fouls. Davis finished with just nine points and 12 rebounds.

He cannot afford to pick up early fouls against Baylor in the Elite Eight, or the Wildcats will have a difficult time advancing to the Final Four.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: B+

The freshman forward played very well at the offensive end and made all 10 of his free-throw attempts. Kidd-Gilchrist finished with 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting. His athleticism and energy at both ends of the floor really sparked Kentucky throughout the game.

Doron Lamb: B+

The Kentucky guard shot very well from the floor and finished with 21 points. He also hit all eight of his free throws. Lamb did a great job of attacking the basket and putting the Indiana defense under pressure.

Grades for Key Indiana Players

Christian Watford: B+

The Hoosiers' forward gave a ton of effort on Friday night and led his team in scoring with 27 points. He shot 9-of-20 from the field, but was just 3-of-9 from the three-point line. Watford also added five rebounds and two blocks in a tremendous all-around effort against the Wildcats.

Cody Zeller: B

After grabbing 13 rebounds against VCU in the third round, Cody Zeller was only able to grab seven rebounds against the athletic Kentucky big men. Zeller scored 20 points and played pretty well, but he needed to be extra special and dominate at both ends of the floor for Indiana to upset the talented Wildcats.

Victor Oladipo: B

The sophomore guard played quite well offensively and finished with 15 points. Oladipo also shot 6-of-8 from the field. Unfortunately for Indiana, Oladipo picked up four fouls with a lot of time left in the second half, which forced him to be less aggressive than he would have liked to be.

Stat of the Night: Bench Scoring

Kentucky's bench outscored Indiana's bench, 22-6, and Kentucky guard Darius Miller had 19 points off the bench by himself.

If the Hoosiers were able to get more offensive production from their bench, they would have had a much better chance to upset the Wildcats.

MVP: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky

Kidd-Gilchrist was phenomenal for Kentucky and led the team with 24 points in their victory over Indiana. His ability to push the ball off of defensive rebounds and score in transition was really difficult for the Hoosiers to defend.

The freshman forward also grabbed 10 rebounds, which gave him a double-double on the night.

What's Next

Kentucky will play No. 3 seed Baylor in the Elite Eight on Sunday. Indiana's season is over, but the future is bright in Bloomington.
