2012 NFL Free Agents: The Best Players Left on the Free-Agent Market

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Believe it or not, there are still a handful of quality free agents available, even after the unprecedented amount of transactions we witnessed over the last week.

Who, you ask?

These three top my list.

Curtis Lofton, LB

Lofton is a certified stud linebacker and has the best years of his career in front of him at age 25. He's tallied more than 117 total tackles in each of his last three seasons as the Atlanta Falcons middle linebacker.

Lofton is 6'0'' and 240 pounds—ideal size for a playmaking, sideline-to-sideline center of any defense. This Oklahoma standout has played in every game since joining the league in 2008. There's a chance he was asking for more money than team's were willing to give out, but whoever does land him—and there's a chance he re-signs with the Falcons—will be getting one heck of a middle linebacker.

Right now, he's got the perfect mix of youth and experience and isn't limited athletically.

Marcus McNeill, LT

McNeil has knee and back injury issues, but when healthy, he's one of the most dominant left tackles in the game.

At 6'7'' and nearly 340 pounds, he's a stonewall blindside protector and has demonstrated above-average footwork and quickness throughout his career.

McNeill is only 28 years old, so, he too has plenty left in the tank.

If a club deems his injuries are not chronic, he'd be a stellar addition to the left side of their offensive line.

Demetrius Bell, LT

Bell isn't nearly as established as McNeill, but he's similar in many ways. The reason both aren't signed yet is due to their injury history.

During the first quarter of 2011, Bell had finally made the full transition to becoming a premier left tackle. His smaller, 6'5'', 310-pound frame was allowing him to handle speed rushers and his deceptive strength was keeping bigger defensive ends at bay.

He then suffered a devastating injury to his collarbone. When he returned late in the season, he injured his knee.

Bell managed to play in only seven games last year.

If he's back to 100 percent and can stay there, he's a sound left tackle, but that's a big if.
