NBA Rumors: Last Minute Buzz on Potential Moves for Playoff Roster Deadline
Time is running out for NBA teams to make some final acquisitions in order to prepare for the stretch run towards the playoffs. All free agent contracts must be signed by today in order for players to be eligible for the postseason.
There aren't any stars out on the market, but some decent role players can still be had.
Here's a look at the latest buzz around the NBA as the playoff roster deadline quickly approaches.
Ryan Hollins
It looks like Hollins will be wearing a Celtics uniform after he clears waivers and passes a physical, according to USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt.
Boston will need to make a corresponding roster move to bring in Hollins, which will likely be releasing Chris Wilcox.
Patrick Mills
As expected, Mills has signed a contract with the San Antonio Spurs, but is still trying to get his visa issues worked out before he can get into the Spurs' lineup.
Mills played in China during the NBA lockout and could be in line for immediate minutes in San Antonio's depleted backcourt. He averaged 5.1 points and 1.5 assists in limited minutes during his first two NBA seasons in Portland and likely will slide in behind Tony Parker on the depth chart right away.
Kelenna Azubuike
The Mavericks waived Sean Williams and it looks like they could be replacing him with Kelenna Azubuike, according to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News.
Azubuike played four seasons with the Golden State Warriors, but hasn't appeared in an NBA game since the 2009-10 season. In 205 career games in Golden State, the 6'5" shooting guard has averaged 10.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in 24.4 minutes.
Azubuike will have to pass a physical and given his injury history, it's no sure thing.
Diaw won't clear waivers until later today and given his salary, it's a certainty that he will. Once he does, both the Celtics and Spurs will be interested in Diaw.
While the Celtics may have an outside shot, it looks as if Diaw is all but headed to San Antonio.
