Leslie Frazier, Steve Spagnuolo Appear to Be Front Runners in St. Louis

NFLGridironGabJan 15, 2009

Now that the Rams have told Jim Haslett that he won’t be their coach in 2009, just who will take over a team that is coming off a 2-14 season?

That answer could come as early as tomorrow, as sources say that it appears the Rams are down to two possible coaches—Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier or Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports broke the story about the two possible choices just a few hours after the story about Haslett broke.

Frazier has experience both as a player and coach. He played with the Bears during their historic Super Bowl year in 1985, was a coach with Trinity International University, and has been in the league for the past 10 years as an NFL assistant coach, including the past two with the Vikings.

Spagnuolo was the man behind the defense that put a stop to the Pats' run last year in the Super Bowl, and was a contender for the Redskins job last year before going back to the Giants. He has been an NFL assistant for the past 10 years, including the last two with the Giants. In addition, Spagnuolo has worked his way up the coaching ranks since graduating from Massachusetts in 1983.
