Big East Morning Coffee: Notre Dame, Louisville Are Big East Cash Kings
Rise and shine Big East fans. It was a big night on the hard court for the conference. Not so much on the football side of things.
Here is a look at some of the stories from the Big East in the last 24 hours.
- There has been a lot of talk this week about profits of athletic programs around the country. Business of College Sports has been breaking down the numbers by conference all week. Which Big East program recorded the highest profit in 2010-11? Notre Dame takes that honor with a profit of $19,147,710.00, but among football members, Louisville is the cash king in the Big East, recording a profit of $3,952,601.00. To put that in perspective, eight Big Ten and seven SEC programs recorded a higher profit.
- Pittsburgh will be playing their spring scrimmage on a high school field. The decision to do so is an effort to strengthen the relationship with western Pennsylvania high schools.
- Perhaps the Temple Owls should take a look at what their soon-to-be instate conference rivals are doing and do the same.
- Speaking of the Panthers, new head coach Paul Chryst is looking for the team to get a little more physical in spring practices, and after five days he seems pleased with the progress. Jerry DiPaola of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review also noted that former Penn State defensive coordinator and interim head coach Tom Bradley attended practice. Bradley was invited by Chryst, another former Big Ten assistant head coach.
- Future Big East member Boise State held its pro day on Thursday, although if you were too mesmerized by the sight of Andrew Luck being chased by a coach with a broom you may have missed it. The Idaho Statesman has a full recap of Kellen Moore, Doug Martin and more.
