College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking Top 3 RB Prospects

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Running back is one of the few positions where a true freshman can step on the field and absolutely dominate.

Programs also love to stock the running back position. Indeed, it's rare to a find a team bound to just a single back these days. Regardless of the talent in the backfield, coaches would be foolish not to continue adding talented depth to their roster when the chance presents itself.

Some say running backs are a dime-a-dozen, and that may be true, but when you find one with truly special talent it is hard to take your eyes off them.

Here's a look the top running backs in the class of 2013.

1: Ty Isaac, Joliet (IL) Joliet Catholic Academy, Undecided

The rising senior left quite a lasting mark in his final game by rushing for a ridiculous 516 yards and six touchdowns. Standing 6'2" and 220 pounds, it is easy to see what programs around the country love about him.

Working primarily out of a Wing-T, Isaac routinely dominated opposing defenses with his combination of size, speed and agility. As a bonus, he's shown remarkable ability to make plays as a receiver and could even line up in the slot with his size.

It will take a little time for him to get adjusted if he plays in a pro-style offense, but with his physical gifts and skill set, that is not something coaches are worrying about right now. At his size, he'll be great in blitz protection if he buys into it.

He's Rivals' 18th-ranked player and Scout's 13th. He has offers from the likes of USC, Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Washington and Wisconsin (among many others).

2: Thomas Tyner, Beaverton (OR) Aloha, Committed to Oregon

Tyner is another bigger back at 6'0" and 200 pounds, but he can flat out fly. Any wonder why he's going to Oregon?

He was injured for a good portion of his junior season, but that hasn't stopped programs from offering the Oregon native a full ride.

With De'Anthony Thomas slated to be the back in Eugene for at least the next two years, Tyner looks like a great fit as a bigger complement to him.

Tyner runs a bit tall at times and has some durability questions as well, but he's a potential superstar if he can stay on the field.

He's earned five stars from both Rivals and Scout and is a consensus top-20 player in the country.

3: Keith Ford, Cypress (TX) Cypress Ranch, Committed to Oklahoma

The Sooners commit is quicker than he is fast, but when Ford puts his foot in the ground he is gone.

At 5'11", 195 pounds, the rising senior uses his vision and leg power to shed would-be tacklers easily and can get going again in a hurry.

Like Tyner, he too battled injuries last season but can put that behind him in 2012.

Coming out of Texas, Ford could make some enemies in home state pretty quickly by jumping over the river, but he was the Sooners' first commit for the 2013 class.

He's patient on the field, but it seems he knows exactly where he wants to play next year.
