WWE News: Huge Update on WWE Developmental Territory's Possible Relocation

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

The WWE’s developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, has been at the center of controversy this week.

There have been rumors that the territory is shutting down and that it’s relocating, but several people within the WWE have refuted those rumors, claiming that they’re completely untrue. At this point, no one seems to know exactly what’s going on with FCW, but the widespread consensus is that something is indeed going on.

What is it, though? Well, here is the very latest on the never-ending saga of FCW.

WWE sources have confirmed to PWInsider that the company plans on opening up something related to developmental in Stamford, CT in the next few months. WWE already has someone in mind to head up the new project but we don’t know who that is yet.

The idea is to have a small group of talents work directly with WWE to help prep them for their debuts on TV. The new developmental facility may be integrated with the new production facility. The new developmental facility would help to be a middle ground between developmental and the main roster

Sources insist there are no plans to shut down Florida Championship Wrestling. In the past week, they have been looking for new locations in Florida to film the FCW TV show.

WWE officials were extremely upset about the reports of FCW shutting down this week.

"

That ought to clear things up, right? Probably not, but of all the ridiculous things I’ve read about FCW lately, this seems to make the most sense.

I’ve always found it weird that the WWE’s headquarters were located in Stamford, Conn., which isn’t exactly a short drive away from Tampa, Fla. It just seems like you’d want your developmental territory in the same location as your company headquarters, or at least near it, in order to have a much easier working relationship between WWE and FCW.

Perhaps the WWE can have the best of both worlds, however, by building up a mini-developmental territory of sorts, where those wrestlers nearing main roster call-ups can work closely with WWE officials in Stamford in order to ensure that their debuts have a better chance of succeeding.

I don’t know about you, but if I’m working on a project with multiple people, I’m probably not going to do a very good job on it if I’m communicating strictly through phone or email. It’s the same with the WWE.

The company can still keep most of its developmental workers in FCW, which is located in a state that loves wrestling, and then have its more seasoned workers up in Stamford, where they can get one last tune-up before heading to Raw or Smackdown.

The only way that FCW should ever shut down is if the WWE’s developmental territory relocates. Trust me—the WWE isn’t just going to close FCW’s doors without having a firm plan for its replacement in place.

Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
