College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking Top 3 QB Prospects
Ranking quarterbacks into two separate categories—"pro-style" and "dual-threat"—is fine and all, but ultimately they're occupying the same position on the field.
Rather than sifting through both categories, we're simply going to look at the top three recruits playing quarterback in the 2013 class.
Two of them have already committed and will more than likely stand by their word, but the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country is still very much undecided.
How do they rank and where will they land? Let's take a look.
1. Max Browne, Sammamish (WA) Skyline High School -- Undecided
Browne may be from the Pacific Northwest, but he's well-known across the country. And, at 6'5", 205 pounds, he's hard to miss.
The rising senior signal-caller has offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, California, Clemson, Oklahoma, UCLA, USC, Washington and Wisconsin, among others.
The consensus five-star recruit threw for 4,034 yards, 45 touchdowns and only seven interceptions last season. In the last two years he's thrown for a combined 8,216 yards and 95 touchdowns with just 20 interceptions.
It simply doesn't get more productive than that, regardless the level of competition.
He visited the Sooners recently and is the only quarterback they've offered a scholarship to in the 2013 class. He's also seen the campus at USC and plans to visit Tuscaloosa in the month of April, according to Bob Przybylo of SoonerNation.
Likely Landing Spot: Oklahoma
2. Shane Morris, Warren (MI) De La Salle Collegiate High School—Committed to Michigan
It would be a huge surprise if Morris didn't honor his commitment to the Wolverines come next February. The Michigan native committed to coach Brady Hoke in May of last year, and appears to be the heir apparent to Denard Robinson as a more traditional quarterback in Hoke's pro-style offense.
Morris is still growing into his 6'3", 190-pound frame and has his best football in front of him.
He's a better than expected athlete and can make plays with his feet when needed, and has the arm to make every throw necessary at the next level.
Rivals.com ranks Morris as the No. 16 overall recruit in the nation and gives him four stars, while Scout.com gives him five stars but ranks him as the No. 28 overall player.
If needed, Morris has the leadership skills and intangibles to step on the field and contribute immediately.
Likely Landing Spot: Michigan
3. Tyrone Swoopes, Whitewright (TX) Whitewright High School—Committed to Texas
Is there any denying that Swoopes is on track to be the next Vince Young?
A consensus five-star recruit, the native Texan has already committed to Mack Brown's cause and bears a striking resemblance to the former national championship-winning QB in Austin in a number of ways.
He doesn't play in one of the most dominant areas of Texas high school football, but his numbers—1,394 yards and 15 touchdowns passing, 2,267 yards and 29 scores rushing—are ridiculous.
At 6'5", 220 pounds, he's a gifted physical specimen with a body ready to play immediately if needed. He still has plenty of work to do as a passer, but he has the potential to dominate defenses as a runner the minute he steps on campus.
The Longhorns' woes at the quarterback position are well-documented since Colt McCoy graduated, and they hope they have a lasting player in Swoopes.
Likely Landing Spot: Texas
