Why Kevin Nash Was Not at TNA PPV Genesis

Joe Burgett Jan 15, 2009

If you were one of the few people who ordered the last TNA pay-per-vew, Genesis, first off, why? Second, you saw that Kevin Nash was not at the event, even though he was supposed to be in a six-man tag match with his "family" from the Main Event Mafia.

It was weird to hear he was not in it after he seemed to be fine at the recent tapings of TNA IMPACT, according to people backstage. But he was diagnosed with staph infection and was checked into a hospital.

There was a recent interview with Nash. The Daytona Beach News-Journal's Jeff Wilen spoke with Nash from a hospital early yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Wilen asked Nash how he acquired the staph infection, and Nash told him about the MRSA infection in his elbow.

Nash told Wilen that he would have to drive to his home in the Daytona Beach area because of airport restrictions on blood bags and that he was being held at the hospital until they can find a blood bag (so that he can travel).

"It looks like it's going to be a two-to-three-week setback," Nash told Wilen. "My arm is going to have to heal...I've dealt with injuries my whole career, though."

Nash confirmed that the infection in his elbow started with a small scrape he developed while working the Wrestle Fest III show in Tokyo, Japan earlier this month.

Regarding not being able to go overseas with TNA, Nash told Wilen, "I'm having a ball. I'm so bummed I'm not going on the European tour."

And he will be missed, considering how popular he is in the Europe. I didn't know he was that popular either, until I saw how many fans he had there. Go figure.

Staph infection can come out of nowhere, and you don't know when it will happen sometimes. Of course, you get it while in a hospital usually. And about 95 percent of the time, you don't get the infection.

Check me if you don't believe the stat. It is just a freak thing that happens. Nash's absence will mean the Mafia will be a man down, so most likely Nash's part will be taken over match-wise with Sting.

Of course, storylines will change, and that is obvious. But since Nash is out for a little while, guys in the Mafia will have to step up. I see Sting stepping up more, considering he has not been doing as much himself.

Basically, he will wrestle every three weeks it seems. Sometimes he will wrestle one week and then the next, but it is rare for Sting to do so. Kurt Angle has been doing most of the wrestling.

What do you think about Kevin Nash's staph infection? And how do you think this will effect TNA?
