Michigan Football: 2013 Recruiting Targets Still Available

Joel GreerJun 7, 2018

Michigan wasn't able to secure its first 2012 commit until March 24, 2011.

Less than a year later, Coach Brady Hoke has already landed 16 future Wolverines for the 2013 class.

Being so far ahead of last year, Michigan can be quite selective while completing the group with approximately 23 commits.

The Wolverines will once again finish with a top-10 class, assuring them of quite a nucleus heading into the 2013 season.

In fact, Michigan with have at least 21 players on its roster rated at least 10th at their respective position.

Here are the seven recruits who, if all goes well, will complete the 2013 class.

Henry Poggi

It wasn't long ago that some of nation's great players wouldn't even talk to Michigan. Have things changed. Barely more than a year after Brady Hoke took over, one player after another are singing praises about the Michigan program.

And not just about football. Henry Poggi, a 4-star DL/TE from Baltimore Gilman, visited Ann Arbor with his parents over the weekend and came away impressed with both the football program and academics, too.

With Poggi armed with 25 offers from all over the country, the recruiting process will definitely keep Michigan on its toes.

"This visit definitely helped Michigan. It was an over-the-top visit for Henry and his mother," Henry's father Biff told ESPN. "(Henry) spent some time with the kids and he really liked those kids a lot. He fit in socially, and he got a chance to watch practice. It was a really positive visit."

"(Henry's mother) sat with Brady (Hoke), she spent about 40 minutes with him, and he explained to her why he coaches," Biff added. "He's passionate about impacting the lives of kids, and she believed him and felt like that was deep in his heart. The academic piece, she also thought in her mind is every bit as impressive and maybe more than Stanford."

Before we chalk this one up to Michigan, Poggi spent some time with the school down south a few weeks ago.

"I really like coach (Urban) Meyer's attitude," Poggi told scout.com. "He comes off as a guy who wants to win and he is recruiting people who want to win, and I like that."

Laquon Treadwell

From Crete-Monee (IL), Laquon Treadwell is already familiar with Ann Arbor.

The 6'3", 190-lb wide receiver has visited Ann Arbor several times and even brought mom along, too.

"It helped Michigan a lot. I felt like I was at home, and I was just chilling," he told ESPN. "I was running on the field and cracking jokes with the coaches, so I felt at home at the time."

Before making a decision, Treadwell also wants to visit, Ohio  and Vanderbilt. The two-sport star (basketball) has already seen Michigan State and Illinois.

Dorian O'Daniel/Kendall Fuller

With Blake Countess a freshman success, it isn't a surprise that a pair of former teammates are looking at becoming Wolverines.

Dorian O'Daniel, a 4-star linebacker, and Kendall Fuller, a 5-star cornerback, will be visiting Ann Arbor for the spring game on April 14.

"Michigan, Clemson and Tennessee are my top," O'Daniel told scout.com. "My top five, just add South Carolina and Ohio State in there."

Fuller, Scout's second-rated cornerback, will be visiting Ann Arbor with O'Daniel and has a similar list of possibilities.

Adding to the cause will be defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, who coached in the area for the Baltimore Ravens. Mattison, reputed to be one of the nation's top recruiters, is also a household name in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.

With the work of Countess and Mattison, there's a very good chance both O'Daniel and Fuller will become Wolverines.

E.J. Levenberry Jr.

A good recommendation from a fellow dad never hurts.

Michigan sophomore cornerback Blake Countess's dad went to school with the father of Michigan linebacker recruit E.J. Levenberry Jr.

“We grew up together and went to Central State College in Ohio. E.J.'s dad told scout.com. He speaks very highly of them.  He said they take care of his son and that everything they tell you they are going to do, they do it.”

E.J., Scout's seventh-rated outside linebacker, made 125 tackles last year for Woodbridge (VA) C.D. Hylton, a perennial Northern Virginia powerhouse.

Currently, the battle is between Michigan and Florida State.

The 6'3, 220-lb 4-star recruit plans on visiting Ann Arbor again for the spring game April 14. If things go right, he could made a decision then.

Su'a Cravens

5 of 6

Wanted by every major school in the country, Su'a Cravens is one of those special athletes who can be a game changer at more than one position.

Remember Charles Woodson? He's the cornerback who also played wide receiver and returned kicks for Michigan's co-national championship team in 1997.

Cravens, who plans of visiting Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State in the Big Ten, can also play wide receiver, outside linebacker and running back.

Michigan is recruiting the 5-star recruit as running back, and one thing's for sure, Hoke will be saving a scholarship for him.

Ty Isaac

6 of 6

With Michigan a year away from primarily running the power-I, landing the top tailback in the nation would be quite an accomplishment for Coach Brady Hoke.

Ty Isaac, a 6'2”, 220-lb combination of speed and power has Michigan as one of his favorites with Notre Dame and Southern Cal.

While he's scheduled to visit Los Angeles this week, Isaac hinted to ESPN Tuesday he might want to play closer to home. "I want people to be able to come out and see me play, and I want to be able to come back home when I need to," Isaac said.
